Chess chess chess chess, chess chess chess chess, chess chess chess chess, chess chess chess chess....
Don't get chance for much 'over the table action' at the mo, but I have two correspondence chess buddies. One opens me a new arse hole regularly, but is a most challenging opponent, the other is more evenly matched, and in our most recent game has opened with...
wait for it....
THE KING'S GAMBIT!!!
A Hub favourite, of course.

Don't forget their SPACE dune buggies. -Ralph Oh my Godfathers, oh man, reading this thread (the first two pages in particular) is just HILARIOUS. Oh my God. And this quoted post just 'did me in', wine through the nose style. God I love The Hub.... I need medical attention now... help me.... something hurts inside....

Have you seen FIDE's World Championship logo? You're closer than you think to laughing pawns... Prawns. I wish they'd stop trying to make Chess cool. It's already cool. Word.

I would like to share this excellent video from the fantastic British Grandmaster Daniel King, one of his monthly 'hangouts' on his Power Play Chess YouTube channel. If you don't want to watch the entire thing (ALTHOUGH WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO?!?!?!), then if I could draw your attention to about the 39 minute mark for a rather special personal moment over which I am still smiling.

Only if my living room is a chess hall in Bled, Yugoslavia, in September 1959.
I love this picture. From the famous Candidates tournament in 1959, to determine who would face the legendary Soviet chess patriarch Mikhail Botvinnik in a world championship match. The young bristling Bobby Fischer sitting across from the calm veteran and reluctant Soviet, Paul Keres, with the extrovert Hungarian-American Pal Benko looking on.
And scoreboard guy! Hawkish, watching the game, giving every ounce of his concentration to his task with barely contained enthusiasm.

THE 2020 CHESS CANDIDATES TOURNAMENT BEGINS TODAY!!!!
Eight of the world's strongest players battle it out in a double round-robin event to determine who is the Challenger to World Champion Magnus Carlsen.
The 2018 WC Challenger, the American Fabiano Caruana, who equalled Carlsen in the Classical games in 2018, is favourite and has been consistently strong. But the talented Chinese player, Ding Liren, has been very potent of late and has really come of age. MVL (Maxime Vachier-Lagrave) from France is a late entrant after Tiemour Radjabov pulled out due to concerns over Coronavirus. MVL has missed out on taking part in the last two Candidates, so he'll bring everything he's got to the party. Anish Giri, often a critic of Carlsen's, has been preparing for this tournament a long time, he's very strong and determined. The veteran Russian Alexander Gruschuk is always dangerous, as is the very unpredictable Russia Ian Nepomniachi. Both these experienced Russians could cause trouble. Finally there is another Chinese player, Wang Hao, who isn't experienced at quite this level, but he's been very strong this year, and the Wild Card, the young Russian Kirill Alekseenko, a solid attacker, surprisingly chosen ahead of the strong and very experienced Russian and former WC Challenger Sergey Karjakin.
Exciting times!

"Well, er, Jacko and the Badger bought it at the first Ypres front, unfortunately — quite a shock, that. I remember Bumfluff’s house-master wrote and told me that Sticky had been out for a duck, and the Gubber had snitched a parcel sausage-end and gone goose-over-stump frogside."
"Meaning...?"
"I don’t know, sir, but I read in the Times that they’d both been killed."
"And Bumfluff himself...?"
"Copped a packet at Galipoli with the Aussies — so had Drippy and Strangely Brown. I remember we heard on the first morning of the Somme when Titch and Mr Floppy got gassed back to Blighty."
