In fairness, all of the comics projects that they have announced in the last decade or so have actually come out so far (Three "Robotech" mini-series of quality that varies between "why does this exist" and "meh" and a "Robotech"/"Voltron" crossover whose reason for existing may not be knowable in this universe :-). Few of them have been any good, but they have actually emerged. Which is superior to Harmony Gold's track record in producing actual animated material:-
Two projects cancelled ("Robotech 3000" and "Robotech:Academy") One project Missing in Action, presumed cancelled (the proposed "Shadow Chronicles" sequel) One redub of a music video OAV from over two and a half-decades ago ("Long Live Alive" One released OAV of "dear god I need another drink" quality ("Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles)
Although, one does have to say that the fact that they don't appear to have an artist at this stage makes it questionable whether it has much hope of hitting its "early 2017" release date...
Karl (At some point HG are going to realise that the horse is dead, and that it ain't going to gallop no matter how they apply the crop. Right?)

I bought his first issue out of loyalty but it wasn't my thing.

Same.
It didn't really grab me. It's doing a wee bit different from Robotech, but not enough.

Yeah, it is odd. A sort of "alternate version" of the Macross Saga but one that doesn't really feel alternate enough somehow. I don't know whether it is intended to snowball further away as it goes, but as it stands it felt like it is hewing far too closely to the general trajectory of the overall story and not really pushing the envelope far enough. (Full disclosure, I've only read the one issue so far so I only have a limited sample to work with).
I wonder whether they are limited by the terms of their license being to create merchandise only in how far they can go with anything involving the Macross characters. We'll likely never know, but I can't help wondering if that is they reason they are being so conservative.
(I suppose they could be trying to walk the line of not upsetting the hardcore Robotech fandom who are somewhat conservative (small "c") and change-averse in my limited experience. Last time I stuck my head into Robotech.coms forums anyway. A while back now...)
