Should the whole 4 classic pretenders set been drawn in the comics like the toys? So being more compact, Bumblebee with his wheels on his shoulders. Grimlock with his tail gun.

Grimlock should have looked like Nixon.

I think all Transformers should be drawn as close to the toys in the fiction. I've never understood the creative decision to make them look so unlike the actual product they are trying to advertise by giving them different faces, designs or even entire colour schemes.

Of course, the Pretender Classics did have proper character models that looked more like the figures. I wonder why they weren't used? On the other hand, it did surprise me that Grimlock and Prime were drawn differently when they became Action Masters.

I think they had to draw them differently, just to emphasise the lack of transformation abilities.
Yeah, it would have been nice to have seen the classic Pretenders looking the way they should have done.

Grimlock robot mode looks more like Energon toys than his G1 toy.

Wow! These are great! I haven't seen these before. The only thing is that Starscream's head/face needs to be black like the toy. Also, is there a Jazz one (with him trying to pear over his car hood)?

Those Guido images are fantastic. If you poke around his site, he's also done Starscream's pretender shell in a Masterforce style-e, and has recoloured the above Starscream into his strike plane brothers, and also Action Master Thundercracker! As a character-model geek I'd have loved to have seen the new models show up in glorious Delbo-vision. Are there images of the models in question anywhere? TF Wiki has a picture of Bumblebee's, but none of the others.

They must exist somewhere due to them being animated for the toy-commercials in the same style as the Bumblebee model.

Nope. They may have existed but there is no guarantee that they will have been kept. Could easily have been destroyed.

Ah! the much pasted-up PM Prime drawing! Did Delbo zero time to do the art or was he just lazy…

See, I liked Classic Grimlock a lot better when I realised he ws an update of Pretender Grimlock.
Delbo wasn't the only one to copy PM Prime! Robin Smith was rather fond of using the character art too...

I'm going to go back & look - wasn't there lots of times the characters where stood holding guns when not in battle on the US comic.

I know the first appearance of PM Prime in US 42 is that stance.

I know some panels are a bit bad but you can see quite a lot of work on them. Also Transformers was low on Marvel editors list of things to care about & most didn't know they produced the comics after #24. Also I checked & all the creators where doing Batman at the same time.

The crappy colouring didn't help. I'd quite like to see the US issues reprinted devoid of colour so we can appreciate the art (or drawings) more.

I agree there - would be great to see how much art was lost on colouring.

I agree there - would be great to see how much art was lost on colouring. I actually had some pics of Delbo art some pre-ink, some pre-colouring, and it actually looked a hell of a lot better before the heavy inks and colours of the period. Can't find it on my computer, though I'm sure I made a point of moving it over to this machine! I think one of his main drawbacks was that he just didn't understand Transformers, and drew them as objects rather than people, if that makes sense.

I'm sure there was some of the artwork in the Titans books extras, I remember, that didn't have the colour and it looked great. I'm sure it was from the Micromaster Wrestler story.
