Micromaster wrestling issue was drawn by Budiansky and Fern. I've seen a page from it for sell at a convention, but it was way overpriced for me to pick up. I do own some pages of Delbo art, looks great without the colouring:

Oh my yes it does.
There's something to be said for b&w art. I don't know if it's just because it pushes the early 80s Marvel Ukovision button in me.....

A quick search for Jose Delbo Transformers will reveal a fair bit more pre coloured art.

You can find plenty of Delbo non-TF art on Ebay. He has a wonderful clean style., an unfairly maligned artist.

I am of the era of growing up with comics which were either fully black and white, a mix of colour and b&w and that amazing period when the Marvel titles moved to GLORIOUS FULL COLOUR ON EVERY PAGE, which blew my young mind. The likes of 2000AD have continued with black and white strips so I am used to them. Heck to this day, Commando is still entirely in black and white.
I actually prefer comics in black and white!

But Phil, I thought you disliked Al Williamson's inking style.

It's Al Milgrom who's pish at inking.
Are you agreeing with me how good that piece is?

I apologise. I misremembered which inking Al you had an irrational dislike of.

Rational. It's based on a vast experience of his inking work. Kitty Pryde & Wolverine. X-Factor. Many others.
Decent Penciller.

Where should I look?
I'm guessing the Stroman/Joe Q is PAD X-Factor?
Yeah, he works there.

Those models are lovely, ta! It'd be great to see Grimlock's robot mode, and Starscream - and it would have been even better to see them in the comic.
And yes, I've seen some American art (may have been Delbo's) without the colours and it really is quite striking - lovely, precise linework.

I didn't fully appreciate a lot of American Marvel and DC art until there were the glorious years of both companies putting out black and white slabs of their older output. Gene Colan was barely on my radar, for example, until I saw how good his work looked in black and white and decently reproduced.

Seeing those black and white pages really makes me want a run of Essential style Marvel trades, but the market seems to have moved on in general from cheap bulk black and white options.

IDW were originally going to do that for the classics run, but as I recall they couldn't find black and white film of the original TF issues, so went with the butchered remastering by Digikore Studios on scans of the coloured pages.
