Both books - machine robo and sentai - arrived today. Both similar. Both quality, You can't beat a publication on Japanese Giuant Robot toys !
Actually learnt some stuff from the Sentai volume about Sentai toys that were released overseas before Power Rangers started !

I remember in the early Nineties, I bought Leader-1, Turbo and Scooter from the local news agents where my Grandparents live for 50p each. My mum made me give my cousin one of them, and he took Turbo. Grrrrrrrrr.

Actually, I used to own two. One completely silver one and a brown cube-shaped one.

I've always found Car Boot sales better for acquiring Go Bots/Robo Machines, but eBay better for Rock Lords.

Actually, I got one of the rare second year "Action Shock Rocks" for a tenner on eBay a couple of days ago. "Stone Hook" his name is. Black and yellow chap with a grappling line in his right arm. I had the pink squid-faced one from back in the day, so I've just got the blue one and the yellow one to find and all I'll be missing is the "upper torso" member of the Fossil Lords.
That last one will be a challenge.
Gobots tend to crop up in large lots when they do appear, and it has left me with numerous doublers and an awful lot of junkers. Dive Dive, Scooter, white Crasher and Water Walk seem to be the most common survivors in the UK.

Staks is a Super Gobot and was available with and without the trailer- this one appears to be with. It is genuinely hard to come by- I just don't know if any Gobot fans are willing to pay $70 for it. I saw a boxed Thruster (Renegade base playset dealie) go for about 15 quid a couple of weeks back on eBay. What Gobot collector base there is (basically me and about five other guys as far as I can tell) doesn't appear to be that bothered about boxed items.
Now if they'd found a pallet of Bismarcks, on the other hand...

EDIT: Moved from discussion of 3P GobotsThis has been bugging me all day, these were called Robo Machines in the UK weren't they? did we actually have the cartoon here at all? I'm sure there was a comic wasn't there? I remember reading it and firmly looking down my nose in comparison to the majesty of TF:UK.

Well, from my limited american understanding, they did get a limited release as Challenge of the Gobots over there. But gobots were all licensed molds from a japanese toyline called Machine Robo, which did have it's own anime series. Which, like Diaclone, I believe also got a limited european release, either pre, or during Gobots.
I could be completely wrong, due to the general hatred some more irrational TF fans have towards gobots, they just aren't as well documented, and much harder (for me, at least) to find reliable information about them.

I am sure one of my friends had a Gobots book. We definitely got it as Robo Machines though, I had a Throttle, Spay-C and Crasher. Maybe it was both, or some cross-pollination going on!

I remember reading it and firmly looking down my nose in comparison to the majesty of TF:UK. Yes they were Robo Machines: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robo_Machineen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robo_Machines_(comic)The cartoon did turn up, and ended up replacing Transformers on breakfast television. I don't think we got anything beyond the first season of TFs shown before Gobots showed up. Did the toys get rebranded as Gobots? Can't remember. Some US Oots may have sneaked into the country though I've got the aforementioned Machine Robo Rescue book and it's fab.
