They look lovely. Cy-Kill may be a little too cartoony compared to the others.

No Smallfoot? I agree about the Cy-Kill, but I seem to recall that was how he was drawn in the Machine Robo anime, which is the look they're going for. Maybe we'll see an alternate head release?

I had promised myself I was not going to start collecting another line.. but these are cheap enough and glorious enough that I am going to have to eat those words.

Fantastic. I have been wondering what happened to these as we haven't heard or seen anything since their original reveal. I hope they sell well so they release Scooter and Crasher in what ever series they were from.

I am liking the look of those. Eagle Robo and the Red Jet bloke are probably the ones I am most drawn to (to no-ones surprise) but they are all quite spiffy looking.

I later noticed there is no sign of the Turbo who was shown with the original greyscale figures. Hopefully he shows up as he looked great.

I wonder if there really is some sort of licensing agreement they can arrange with Hasbro to release these *as* gobots. Maybe straight to specialty shops instead of toystores.
What Hasbro doesn't want is Machine Robo coming in to compete with Transformers, or any other transforming robot line. Which honestly is what these will do as they are now. But if Hasbro is in on it as owner of the Gobot license, then they'll get some money, and have a say as to how to mitigate these competing with TFs in the western market.

Yes, that's the other way to look at it. We aren't far off paying £20 for a TF deluxe now, so if these are better finished...

At twenty quid there are a couple of them that I'd be tempted by - the red het and whatever the proper name of the F-15 bloke is. (Machine Robo is not covered by my Specialisations, and I need to take Extra Time and use reference materials to have much chance of passing a Skill Check in it :-) )

So Gobot reboot concept. Updated and focused on how to distinguish it from Transformers. Toy wise, Hasbro could simply make it a TF subline, but storywise it focuses on the science fiction elements more than TF. TF when it goes any deeper than just typical action, then it goes into mysticism and spirituality. Unlike TF, the original Gobots were human-like aliens who eventually put their brains into giant transforming war machines. Everything else is largely the same. So the problem is, how to reboot gobots without seeming like just a clone of TF, especially when Hasbro has trouble making new TF series that aren't retreading the same ground over and over. Well, focus on the scifi.
________ So I present to you: Rise of the Renegades
Eons ago, Gobotron was a society much like our own. Peace, love, hate, war, hunger, poverty, curiosity, all the same strengths and flaws. All the same hopes and fears. However, as their society grew, and their technology advanced, they reached The Singularity. The point where man and machine became one. They achieved immortality by uploading their consciousness into computer mainframes, which can then download into robotic bodies when they need. They realized so many of the flaws of society were pointless. Hunger is eliminated. War is meaningless. Money is useless. They set their sights on the stars, and spend thousands of years peacefully exploring the galaxy. Resolving conflicts. Secretly aiding developing cultures.
But not all Gobotronians feel this way. Some feel the Gobotronians should be Emperors, not mediators. A small band of these Renegades break away and end up going to ground on a backwater planet called Earth, after crashing in a town called Roswell.
The rebel leader makes a deal with the Government, and begins sharing technology, and is eventually set up with a covert government organization in Groomlake Nevada. Cy-Kill (as the humans call him) though has a goal all his own. Advance human technology to the point where he can create an army and conquer Gobotron.
But have the Guardians arrived on Earth too late? Can they stop the Renegades? _______
Toys- As I said, Hasbro can simply release the toyline under the Transformers umbrella. Transformers Gobots, with "Rise of the Renegades" as a subtitle similar to Unicron Battles, Battle for the Spark, Combiner Wars and such. As humans and potentially other aliens would be a more important part, maybe figure out how to work them into the toyline, too. The ability of gobotronians to download their consciousness, also gives better opportunities for Hasbro to make vastly different figures for a single character. Leader-1: voyager class f-22 raptor Also, Leader-2: same character, as a deluxe class car, for when flying around as a fighter jet would be just kinda stupid. Names are adjusted for where I *know* there will be copyright issues
Wave 1, Legend Class •Sureshock- Scooter •Cy-kill- Motorcycle. Chosen form because easier and "friendlier" to humans. •Pathfinder- Saucer. Potential reuse as Cosmos.
Deluxe Class •Turbofire- Turbo, red sportscar •Bentwing- WWII Fighter plane •Cop-tor- police helicopter •Fracture- Crasher, racecar
Voyager Class •Leader-1- F-22 jet •Tankor- Tank, "advanced" tank. Retool into Dozer.
Wave 2 Legends •Jeeper Creeper- Korean war style jeep, retool to buggyman •Nightranger- Cy-kill retool
Deluxe •Smallfoot- pickup truck •Good Knight- because hell yeah •Fitor- "advanced" jet fighter, retool into Screwhead •Psycho- "advanced" racecar, retool into Baron Von Joy/Zeemon
Voyager •Spay-C- Space shuttle •Vamp- monsterous car tank thing

Hasbro owns them and hasbro and takara have both released a fair few gobot characters, and even more homages. And if hasbro did a gobot relaunch, it would be under the TF umbrella. They are actual official transformers, and have been for decades now.

I'm confused as to what Hasbro do or don't own from the original Gobots line. Do they own the names or likeness of Leader One and so on?
