They're doing it the right way though by preparing all the prototypes first and building awareness over the next ten months, and if you look at the website for the company doing it, they actually are a toy manufacturer as opposed to an over ambitious back room operation. I'm interested in anything like this succeeding because it might open the door to others.

Nothing wrong with Kickstarter.
You just have to be careful who you back is all. I've never had any issues with it, although there are a few notable twats who have screwed people over - mostly the computer game side of thing, although the arsehole who wrote the baseball comic Sullivan's Sluggers is probably comics biggest twat on that platform.

I think the only Kickstarters I've backed are the two Jonathan Green has run to write books about the history of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. First one is a lovely hardback coffee table book with my name in the back as a backer. Second one is due end of the year.
I'd be tempted by this, but a ten figure set will be very expensive.
