That same toy is literally six posts up the thread. Implying I read the forum in any mode other than 'recent posts'

Is it not easier to follow a conversation by reading a thread? Then the posts are...lined up in order...

I agree. I tried recent posts and got hideously confused. I assumed it was something you needed to be real hardcore to cope with. Like Blue. He's hardcore.

No, Blue, no. You don't miss anything using the recent threads link. It shows you every thread that has been posted to and when you click the link to the thread it takes you to the last post you read. It's not the same as just browsing the forum.
I read everything by everyone - recent threads shows you that but in conversation order and not every confusing jumble of posts together order.

Of course I've seen it. It's in the recent threads list, because it's a recent thread!

My way is one clicking. And what if there is a recent thread that you dont want to read but it turns out it is amazing. How would you know?

Posts that led to this discussion moved in.
When I was just a member I used to read by particular threads in a forum.
Now I'm a God Mod I read EVERYTHING in recent posts view in order to spot things that need attention.
However to me the important thing is the threads read write as threads which is why I cut quoting of the previous post out when I spot it. The threads will be what we go back and read later.

The definition of attention includes, but isn't limited to, spotting trolls and known trouble makers, correcting spelling, reducing links that are too long to a manageable size and making sure posts are in the right thread!

I read the forum using 'recent posts', because it's the quickest way and involves fewest clicks and visits to pages, but I skim most of it, I don't read every post. As there are only a few live threads at any one time that I am interested in, it's easy to keep them in my head. I only visit the thread itself when I wish to post.

I read the forum the same way I do all the other forums, the way I have done since time immemorial... I go to a subforum that interests me, I note to "new" tags against threads that indicate they have been posted in since I was last here and if the thread interests me I go into the thread and read the new posts. Just as I have done since the very dawn of web-forums, and for that matter not dissimilar to the way of things in the days of Usenet's glory.
I also might visit a thread that hasn't been posted in for a while if it is currently relevant to me, or if I haven't been around for a while and am catching up with things that happened whilst I was away, or I have just decided that I am interested in it after all.

I'm not even sure where on the site these New Posts and New Threads links are. I've had a look on the main page, my profile and several other places but they certainly don't jump out at one. *

* Also, I'm so old that I was here when the Internet was made entirely of text, I still hold to the Ancient Arts of the sages of Ask-EE and the ancient practices of rhe Komund Layne.

I read it exactly like Karl.
Except on Thursdays where I obsessively refresh the Top 5 thread waiting for Phil's new clue.
