I realised earlier that today marks 10 years since I saw Transformers at Botcon 2007. (well technically more like 4am tomorrow morning thanks to timezones) and it made me finally sit down and rewatch it.
In short, its much, much better than I remembered. Like holy crap, its actually a good film.
I've said before that ROTF managed to retroactively make the first film worse, but I honestly hadnt realised how much it had affected my impression of it. The Whitwickys are nowhere near as annoying as in the next 2 films. Mikela is an interesting character. I can see why Fox didn't want to come back for DOTM. She went from a leading character with personality and back story who served a purpose to the pissed off girlfriend in ROTF. And assuming she would have largely kept Huntingtons role in DOTM would have ended up stupid girlfriend who doesnt notice her boss is a creep and evil.
I'm going to rewatch the rest of them this week before seeing The Last Knight again. Im curious to see how they hold up and hold together now that TLK is attempting to tie them together a bit.
And I still love the soundtrack. Must find my CD.

I rewatched the first three before seeing AoE and similarly felt the first one was quite good. This time I can't face the challenge of all four before TLK.

Yeah, I sat down and watched all four before TLK. All of them (even the dreaded ROTF) are better than I remembered. But yeah, the first one was actually really good.
And also of everything bad I've said about Bay, he's actually been pretty good about taking criticism. Generally the big complaints about each previous movie get worked out in the following. He's just... really bad about making all new mistakes.
In a lot of ways, AOE feels like the true direct sequel to the first one.
But yeah, Sam's not as awful a character as everyone drags on him, in the first one. Megan Fox hate is pure misogyny compiled with bay's sexualization of her on screen, and mistreatment of her off. She's a good person, and a FUN person, who gets shat on constantly by this fandom because she's a woman, and they think "no girls allowed" is somehow a mature mindset to have.

I wouldn't call it a good film, but I would call it a well made film.
Bay is a very talented movie maker; I would put him on a par with, if not a little ahead of, JJ Abrams. Neither of them make films I want to watch though (at least, more than once).

It's still a shit film but with a great score. If only that was available on CD. I would like a physical copy of the score.

I got the physical CD at the time. Even back then it was unusually expensive.

I'm really not a fan of the score, aside from 'Autobots To Earth' it's not at all memorable to me!

Yup, but rather pricey! I did have a digital copy from the late Play Digital but lost it due to hard drive failure and that shop no longer existing. -Ralph

I did have a digital copy from the late Play Digital but lost it due to hard drive failure and that shop no longer existing. This is one of the reasons why I hate owning things digitally. That and the fact that everyone seems to have forgotten that digital audio formats are lossy.

I had to move to digital for audio dramas for price and space reasons but with music I like to have a physical copy as I only buy it once in a blue moon.

That's an advantage I find with Amazon. You can download the files to your own hard drive and manage your own back ups.

14 years since my second ever viewing. Time for another rewatch.
I am having to watch my Japanese Transforming Optimus Prime DVD case version. And that seems to have Japanese subtitles baked in. Oh well. Gotta track down my other copies and work out if I have a Bluray version. And probably do the same for the rest of them.
Or maybe I'll just get the first four film in a bluray boxset for £6.

Nope, definitely got the original bluray somewhere.
Pretty sure Ive got ROTF and DOTM too. AOE I'm not sure about. Oooo I could splurge £3 something for a 3D copy.
I know I have TLK as its got the Combiners Wars show on it as a bonus.

Putting Combiner Wars as a TLK bonus is genuinely the funniest thing they could have done, for multiple reasons.
It's either "Fine. You think we're bad? Here is the worst series this franchise has coughed up. Movies don't seem so bad now, yeah?"
Or "No one wants to publish this series on DVD? Not even Shout Factory? Fine, we'll make them take it as a bonus on the next movie."
I will accept no criticism or alternate reasoning on this.

I just want to know what Target did to piss someone off so much they got it as their exclusive.
