I've always thought that the first movie's Megatron is the single most boring Megatron design out of them all. (Closely followed by any design inspired by it, like TFP or Cybertron Mode TFA)
So why am I a bit excited for this one?

I never did get round to getting the Voyager Shockwave. Might have to have this one instead.
Where on earth do Scavenger's big wheels go in vehicle mode?!

And so am I. But yeah, I love the fact that Shockwave comes with one of those little green army men that you used to get in packs of like a 1000 as kids, and which went on to star in Toy Story. Not what I would've picked, but there you go. Of all of them, it's Mixmaster and Scavenger that I'll be getting, so's I can complete Devastator. Thankfully, they look good.

Where on earth do Scavenger's big wheels go in vehicle mode?! They probably end up in the middle of the vehicle mode, as they do with the old, combining Legends version. It'll probably be obvious from any angle other than the one they used in that render. Which is why they used it.

More to the point - if his vehicle mode doesn't need whopping great big wheels, why does he have them in robot mode?

I did think after I posted that that there's no reason why he *can't* have really big wheels in robot mode, perhaps he likes that mode of movement, but it just seems silly he has to pack them away into an alt mode that doesn't use them. If he'd gone for 'monster truck' he could have had FOUR really big wheels. But then he is a Constructicon. Not too bright.
Edit: BAY Constructicon. Of course the others are not so dim.

His giant wheels are just his treads, though. The original twenty dollar voyager toy managed to replicate this. It'll be a shame if a fifty dollar leader class can't. Especially given that there's practically nothing to his robot mode.

I'd imagine though that that extra level of complexity would add extra cost to the toy, and could also compromise the ability to combine. So I'll not be at all surprised if they cheat.

1. Thinking about it, I'm kinda surprised that we haven't heard anythibg about Sentinel or the Fallen in this line, given they're the two biggest villains of this part of the franchise.
2. I got the DotM leader class Optimus. Even if I didn't want the toy by it's own merits, I'd have ended up getting it just because of how stupid it's existence is. (The toy itself isn't stupid, just the story behind it's creation)
It's a bit of a letdown, honestly. The main figure itself is pretty decent as a robot. It's got a really clever transformation, but the vehicle front end doesn't tab well, and as such the hood doesn't stay closed and the wheels don't stay in place. In robot mode, the hood pieces on his arms have no tabs to really stay in place. It's okay if you just pose it and leave it, but if you fiddle with your toys like me, they won't stay in place well. Minor nitpick, I know, and not that big a dead even for me. Just slightly annoying.
The new stuff though? Not sure it's worth the extra twenty. The jetpack is the best part, but not great. Stays on pretty well, and impressive wing span. The underside isn't sculpted at all though, and that's the side that's viewed most when he wears it. The harness in theory works, but the ports/clips and stuff to secure the weapons are all loose and don't hold the weapons well. There's no place at all to secure the jetpack if Optimus isn't wearing it... At least if there is, it's undocumented and I can't figure it out at all.
As a trailer, it could stand to be a bit bigger. It would both look better, and work better. It doesn't like to tab together, and if everythibg isn't just perfectly aligned inside, it won't. But it's decently solid when it does. However, his two new huge cannons have nowhere to go but underneath, and not only do they occupy negative space, they,re also bigger than the wheel clearance.
Even 2% bigger would have made a huge difference all around.
I'd say go for the trailer version if you have the choice. But if you don't, you missed it, or you got the second voyager, this one isn't worth shedding any tears over.

1. Thinking about it, I'm kinda surprised that we haven't heard anythibg about Sentinel or the Fallen in this line, given they're the two biggest villains of this part of the franchise. True enough. But then again, we're only just about to get a version of the 2007 Camaro Bumblebee. Whilst it's true that we have indeed already had plenty of Bumblebees, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to get to that iconic one. So I'm fairly certain that the Fallen and Sentinel are coming, it's just a matter of working through other characters first. And I'll not be at all surprised if we get a Studio Series Daytrader before either of them, just because Hasbro are weird. 2. I got the DotM leader class Optimus. Even if I didn't want the toy by it's own merits, I'd have ended up getting it just because of how stupid it's existence is. (The toy itself isn't stupid, just the story behind it's creation) I've not heard this story. At least, I don't remember hearing it. Do tell. Yeah, I've found that annoying also. The issue with the arms is less huge for me, but it's the fact that the truck mode is a pain in the arse to get to tab together that disappoints. We had this same issue ten years ago, guys - we should have it cracked by now! (Talking to the Hasbro designers there, btw.) The new stuff though? Not sure it's worth the extra twenty. The jetpack is the best part, but not great. Stays on pretty well, and impressive wing span. The underside isn't sculpted at all though, and that's the side that's viewed most when he wears it. The harness in theory works, but the ports/clips and stuff to secure the weapons are all loose and don't hold the weapons well. There's no place at all to secure the jetpack if Optimus isn't wearing it... At least if there is, it's undocumented and I can't figure it out at all. Yeah, they're all nice and all, but also very hollow, and the paint apps are minimal. They're not terrible by any means, or in comparison to other toys, just would've liked more for the price, as you say. I've had to leave the shield out because I just can't get everything in the trailer and get it to close up properly. And yeah, those cannons on the underside are a big mistake. As with you, I'm not regretting this entirely - I would've wanted one at some point I'm sure. But I was expecting better.

You have, you just blocked it from your mind. Boy gosh they just keep shooting their own feet with this mold, don't they? First voyager- Who cares about screen accuracy in this line that's all about screen accuracy? Second voyager- Okay okay! We get it! We remolded it to make it actually screen accurate, and can combine with Jetfire. Leader- Hey, before that last one actually reaches shelves, we're announcing a version that's the same, but also comes with a trailer it can combine with, and a ton of accessories! Yeah, it's just bizarre. I was all ready to consider getting the second voyager and Jetfire, but then this was announced, and I'm... yeah. This is much better - it has a trailer and everything! So... I guess... thank you Hasbro, for preventing me from giving you money? You weirdos.

I stil dont have any of the leaders, but DOTM Megatron is a definite as are the rest of the constructicons and sooner or later I'll get Blackout.

Wow. Thanks. I own most of them. Easier to say which ones I don't have. Blackout, some of the retreads of old molds. But I have the first Voyager Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Jazz, helicopter Drift, Hooded Megatron, Rampage, Longhaul, Thundercracker, Starscream, Brawl, Barricade, Bonecrusher, Grimlock....others too. By far one of my favorite lines. Reviews and pictures here: First Studio series reviews: petessuperrobots.blogspot.com/2018/09/toy-reviews-transformers-studio-series.htmlSecond batch of reviews: petessuperrobots.blogspot.com/2019/09/toy-review-studio-series-ii_21.html?m=1I don't think any of us own him. I have more than I ever planned on getting. They're generally better now than at the start, but voyagers are still the best. Leaders are hit and miss, and while better quality, deluxes are usually more miss.
I also think many RotF and DotM toys are considerably better than their Studio Series counterparts. Always better in quality, sometimes better even in accuracy. (I think Studio Sideswipe is a pretty good and solid figure, but RotF Sideswipe is just as accurate, and has the swords built in with an amazing gear gimmick)
Though I think Voyager Bumblebee Optimus is one of the best Optimi ever made. Movie line, Masterpiece, regular line, or otherwise.

The line is very much all over the place. Its annoying that its got it own scale so a lot of the deluxes look like legends. Because of that Ive mostly stuck to characters I didn't already have for deluxes. Voyagers have all been amazing. Very happy to get a larger bonecrusher.

I like them both, but I can't imagine transforming Op out of robot mode very often (because awesome robot mode and slightly finicky transformation) and Dropkick suffers from some floppy joints. There are a couple more I wouldn't mind getting, but definitely not at full price.

how much interest do we have in the Studio Series? How many do we own? None. I was down for Blackout but then saw the improved/upscaled KO and thought if I was getting it as a one off, I'd get that one. But then didn't. I remember getting very into the movie dinobots and I have a box of movie stuff still in the loft including that cardboard Ark playset, but for the most part I just don't like the designs. I love the fact this line has consistently put out waves of figures in proper scale with each other and is building what will look like a cohesive collection - this lot together now must look ace - it just doesn't interest me. I've said before I'm jealous of the consistency and regularity of the releases. Studio Series has kept the same aesthetic and release schedule going far longer than the Generations imprints do.

All 3 voyager Primes are good, Bumblebee Prime is fantastic. The Constructicons are weird apart from Longhaul who is really very good, but its hard to judge them till you can make Devastoator.
The voyager Starscreams are great. Bonecrusher might not be quite as good as the original but looks good and is a better size.
Only voyager Ive come across that I wasnt that bothered by is ROTF Megatron.
Deluxes are a lot more hit and miss. Jazz is good, but tiny, WWII Bee is fun, I like VW Bee but its very fiddly. Lockdown looks good but Im not convinced by. The Bee Movie deluxes generally seem good, but Ive not played with them much. The reused moulds are what they are.
