Studio Series *is* the line for the Bumblebee Movie. Waves had to be reshuffled due to the release date change but was always planned for April. #HasbroToyFair #NYTF

I can see myself being weak and picking a couple of these up. I didn't really like the movie aesthetic, but hindsight and nostalgia...

Never got around to getting a movie Ratchet, so that one might have to be a purchase. And that Leader Blackout is VERY nice; he's definitely a must-buy.

Yeah, Blackout has been fairly well served with good toys in the past - and that streak hasn't broken here. That is a really nice toy. The humanoid mode has a good hulking presence, and the copter mode also looks properly chunky given what it is supposed to be. Nice to see this one have a refueling probe that is closer to the proper scale, rather than the weird little stub that replaced it on a lot of the previous versions.
Not sure that any of this is a must buy, but the Blackout is definitely the stand-out toy of the line.

Ratchet's already had a pretty good deluxe toy. I feel like he'd have been better served as a voyager. Unless they're trying to force the scale to "big guys like optimus and starscream are voyagers, giants like blackout are leader, everyone else is deluxe" In which case dusting off the scout class would have been better for cars like Bumble and stinger.

All of those really are a dramatic improvement over the last attempt for each of those designs (though ratchet may be a side step over improvement), except Optimus. The RotF Voyager Battleblades Optimus is way better.
Planning on getting Blackout, Megatron, and Bumblebee. Stinger and Lockdown boil down to how I feel at whayever point I find them. I passed on the AOE versions because I didn't like the toys, but these are a lot better. But also characters I don't really care about. I guess the same goes for the tentacle guy? Third new mold for a guy who had like... three minutes of screen time across two movies? Movie 1 leader Brawl, and RotF voyager Starscream serve me really well, and don't know if I want to spend money to replace them.

I'm not too fussed about movie toys personally though I have to say these look pretty good for what they are.

Ive been waiting 11 years for a leader sized Blackout so it would just be rude not to buy this. A screen accurate-ish 77 Camero is fine with me too.
The rest Im not sure about. I probably need to see comparisons to existing versions. I personally like most of the first generation of movie toys up to ROTF, but if I felt the urge for a scaled display starting with leader Blackout, Brawl and maybe that new Grimlock then I would need to decide on a voyager Prime and if Ratchet and Ironhide need to be voyager or deluxe.

I just noticed there's a blatant face in grimlock's crotch, and I'll never unsee it, now.

Blown up like that some of those new figures look Astonishing. The Grimlock is amazingly detailed. I'm wondering if the are just better designs with the she production quality as before or whether they're genuinely improved all round. What was the price point on the I've that went on Hasbro toyshop? Are they super expensive?

Crowbar is by faaaar the biggest upgrade. And Optimus is a pretty big step down. I think they'd have been better off tweeking the RotF Voyager.
I'm kind of amazed that in ten years, neither Jazz, Brawl, or Blackout have gotten new molds.

It's great to see that kind of diversity in height. I like the variety. It's rare these days. I loved it when I realised Blurr and Kup are actually a head apart.
That Grimlock must be huge.

I'm probably gonna end up collecting the entire line, except Optimus (unless it prooves to be a fun mold)
It's the largely reasonable attempt at scale that's winning me over.

Thanks for getting these comparisons up. This certainly highlights some of the problems with earlier lines that at the time we overlooked. Not sure I can justify picking any of these up, but very tempted.

Okay so it's common knowledge that Hasbro will repaint/retool molds to get more milage out of it. TLK ended up having a lot of new molds for what ended up being a throw away line. And the first wave of the Studio Series, save for one (a minor retool of one of the TLK new molds), is entirely new molds.
I just picked up TLK Voyager Megatron on clearance for $13. And just now I was fiddling with it and it reminded me of someone else, which got me thinking...
I wonder if in the Studio Series, there's gonna be a retooling of this (or leader) Megatron into RotF Jetfire?

Also, was thinking about scale, and I realized. If they were to attempt true scale with everyone across all existing sizes (with optimus/megatron centered in voyager), then Grinlock and Scorn would need to be Titans, with Slug and Strafe ending up as leaders.

I know it was rumored, but even still... that is just a really, really odd direction.
A non-screen character, repainted from a toy that character isn't associated with, in a color he isn't associated with.
I kinda think naming him Thundercracker is just a trademark protection.
Edit: okay, so he's blue. That first one looked jet black.

I thought he looked black too which is why I grabbed the second picture that Aichi haven't got yet.
IF this is still Titanmaster compatible, I may have a problem.....
