My sister in law fell for one of those phone scams yesterday where they ring you up and try to convince you to give them remote access to the machine. Yeah, I know, OH DEAR.
As per usual for our family the machine, a windows 10 laptop, had come back to me to fix and make safe, there's a joy.
So ....
I've run virus scan through windows defender, nothing.
Using CCleaner I've removed all the software I can see with yesterday's install date, and there were a few, cleaned the registry and deleted any suspicous looking startup entries.
I've put spybot on it, that's running as we speak.
I'll do the same with malware bytes anti malware when that's done.
=-
Can anyone recommend any other things I can do to it to get it working safely and securely again?
I'm thinking a complete set of password changes but I'd want to be sure there's nothing nasty on the machine before I do that.
