I'm not a Seth MacFarlane fan, at all. His comfortzone humor tends to be extremely crass, sexists, racist, and homophobic. Though he's also really smart, and loves science. He was one of the reasons the updated Cosmos series happened.
So while my expectations were really low, I was willing to give it a chance. And after a few episodes, I really like it. It's not satire. And it's not a straight up comedy, like I thought. The humor comes more from characters reacting to weird start trek stories more like normal people (the security chief, first time left in command freaks out when the captain vanishes, and throws up), than to pushing situations to satirical levels.
It hits all the buttons Star Trek and Galaxy Quest do, even if some of the humor is bluer than I would like.
