GAMEBOYS FOREVER!
I must have a shot of the TNG game later. I think I still have it somewhere.

Guys, you're all freakin' amazing. Thank you all.
Yeah, PC 'World' were utterly shit. Only PS4, and very little help.
The DS is a good option to investigate.
Big is eleven going on TEEN (Aaarrrgghh!!!). In some ways she doesn't give two hoots about being cool 'n' hip, but in other ways she does. And the fun is in the guessing! (*jumps out window*)
Minecraft for her new phone is now being mentioned as a priority. She... changes her mind a lot.... So that might be a much cheaper and simpler option, giving me and Mrs Shocks time to gather our wits and plan a little better for Birthdays in the summer. And give Big the chance to make her piggin' mind up!
Thanks to you guys though I now have a fantastic 'street' understanding of this alien world.

She's a woman. She's changed her mind. What can I tell ya...?

You can always pick up a Wii & the Zelda games & search for the gamecube Zelda 4 game collection & wind waker - that should keep you busy (also get controller to plug in the wii) & memory card if you can find one

What the blazes is a Gamecube?!?! DOn't confuse Shockprowl, Primenova! The Gamecube is an old console from like, 2001. It is not your destiny.

I am easily confused... But thank you, Nova'!
So. Looking at these Nintendo 2DS xl. They're the newish ones, aren't they? Seem a decent halfway house.

Indeed. The new 2DS XL with the clamshell design does look great. I'm half tempted myself. The original flat 2DS looked a bit Fisher Price, but I reckon this new one is a lovely thing.

I mean it's a handheld not a console. Does she want to play games generally, does she want a console to play games with her friends, are there specific games she wants to play?

They're the newish ones, aren't they? Seem a decent halfway house. The tech in them is a few years old, but the design/model is only four months old. They came out in the summer.

If she just wants to play games, the new 2DS is a good choice
Pros 3DS was really expensive and a bit pointless (most people just turned the 3d function off), the old 2DS looked too 'kiddy'. MASSIVE library of top quality games which you can get cheap Handheld console
Cons: As a system its on its way out - I don't think there's much being produced if anything for it at the moment as Nintendo are throwing their weight behind the switch for handheld and console so it won't be 'current' for long Won't play Breath of the Wild if that's what her heart is set on

Great advice again guys, thank you.
I don't think she fully knows what games she wants to play or what platform she'd like to play them on. She's just heard of Zelda Breath of the Wild.
The 2DS might be a good jumping off point. Then again, why not go the whole hog and get a system we can all use (and 'us' I mean 'them'), which may indicate a Switch. Perhaps as a joint 'family' present in the future....

The handheld part of the Switch is a bit unwieldy, and I don't think Nintendo will want to give up the chokehold they've got on the handheld market. Why give that away when they basically own it? The 3DS tech is coming up for seven years old, but new hardware revisions are keeping it fresh. I suppose the mobile world is different now to what it was then, but I still see a lot of kids using 3DSs.

I mean I agree, the Switch as a handheld isn't as portable as the DS - the clamshell makes it nigh invulnerable! Maybe they're just cooling off whilst the Switch gets the spotlight, but it does feel like they're moving 100% of all effort to the Switch.

You've hit a bit of a nail on the head there, Pins ol' pal. The Big plays so many games on her new mobile, that we're now doubting a DS would offer anything much at all different. Especially if we get her her belived Minecraft. A bigger games console might do though as a family thing.

It is a dilemma that, but one thing to remember is that the DS is a dedicated console and much easier to actually play games on - and the games themselves are proper Nintendo games - ie gooduns - so the experience is infinitly superior to a phone.

The Wii can play all Gamecube games but this is the best way to get those classic Zelda games if you don't want to get confused with the 3D DS game releases. It's just all the games are on mini CD rather than the CD rom. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameCubeThe console or the handbag with it's carry handle
