I'm not a fan of the style in general, to be honest.

Yes, it was. Nick here aired it halfway through the season, before the monster arc, and before the 80s arc (which the eighties arc itself was put out on dvd before the Usagi Yojimbo arc finished airing. I haaaate Nickelodeon)
It's kind of an odd choice IMO to change Raph's weapons, and one I don't quite understand. Presumable it because "KIDS SHOULDN'T MIMIC DANGEROUS WEAPONZ OMG," except no kid can get their hands on a real sai, and they're not as easy to mimic with other objects? As opposed to tonfas, which any kid can grab a couple sticks and start wailing on another kid with. This logic also always puzzled me with Michelangelo's nunchuks. You can't fake a nunchuk. You either have one, or you don't. And it's entirely in the parent's control if their kid has one. Unlike a sword or a bo staff, which any stick can substitute.
I don't like the art. But then neither did I like the art style of TFA, until I saw it in action. So I'll hold off opinion on that (except that goddamn splinter is the worst ugliest thing I ever seen!). Not fond of Raph being leader. That's about as smart as making Wolverine the leader of the X-Men. But it's different.
And hey, after 34 years, April is black again.

Pass, then.
While scanning through Netflix I was shocked to learn of the existence of a live action TV show!

I have always had a strong stomach with the TMNT and am going to support this new show. I even loved The Next Mutation!. The more I hear about RISE the more I am interested. Some good ideas thrown in.
I will still miss the 2012 show dearly. That was just perfect.
Fraid so. Carmageddon (Mutant Apocalypse pt.3) the series finale will air both Saturday and Sunday on Nicktoons. The US aired the episodes out of order and had the Wanted Bebop & Rocksteady arc as the series finale instead.
There was going to be the usual running order of 26 eps, but Nickelodeon called for 20. It mean a few were scrapped which were rumored to be a 4th part for Mutant Apocalypse, A Casey Jones episode (rumored Bodycount adaptation), and another Usagi Yojimbo crossover.

This... kills any chance this had. The animation quality is actually worse than I was afraid it would be.

This show hasn't aired yet and Meat Sweats is already a popular villain character.

Judging from an interview clip with Rob Paulsen, season 2 is already being worked on.

Six Months on. I like Rise, but I don't love it. I will always prefer the overall tone of 2k12, but this show is enjoyable on its terms.
They're doing some great ideas and fun new characters. And... I'm really into the new dad-bod take on Splinter. The more this show chips away at this version of the character the more won over I am. Fans have been promised that Splinter could be the most popular character by the end of Season 1 and I'm already convinced after figuring out bits and peices of his backstory.
April is a bit annoying, but making her streetwise, independent and gung-ho is a great move. I don't think Rise even needs a version of Casey at all as she pretty much is THE Casey of Rise. She's also weilding a green baseball bat as a signature weapon (a nod to the old-school Casey action figure). The show made it confusing at first whether this April was a 20-something or a Teenager until a much later episode revealed her going to High School. In fact, the High School has been a revisited setting that gives more of April's human peers some screentime. Some of these classmates and peers have conatations to previous TMNT alum.
The Turtles are great! I like Raph as the leader, giving Leo the chance to be more laid back and a bit cocky. Mikey as an artist really works and should have been an idea in previous TMNT shows and Donatello is the most tech savvy version of the character yet! Replacing the bo-staff with a tech staff is a stroke of genius!
Not into Baron Draxum as a baddie, but Big Mama is pretty cool. I like the 2 Foot Clan guys the most who are a reverse Pinky and the Brain reunion with Paulsen and LaMarche voicing this duo!
Ramble over. I'm sticking with Rise in the long run. So many fans hate on it and that's ok. The show deserves a chance. Booyakabunga.

I would be more open if the animation weren't some of the absolute worst on TV. It rivals Disney's Big Hero 6 and Tangled (TV series, not movies) level awful. It's borderline going from static image to static image in terms of how choppy it is. (Not quite that bad, but getting dangerously close)
I've tried a few more tines to watch this. But the animation is such a turn off. The art style still isn't doing it any favors, but I could get passed that.

I know what you mean about the animation.
On a side note, Tangled animation aside is at least giving the brand justice with episodic storytelling in general - especially as the central character spent the first 18 years of her life locked in a tower. What a good way to also retcon Forever After. Rapunzel is being allowed to live a bit, especially with Season 2s setting.
In its current run, Rise can be tweaked and some things are yet to take shape. It seems like Nick's strategy with the TMNT brand is to reboot it every 5 years. ROTMNT is gonna be around for a while.

I don't really wanna see anything from the heart fail. And while I don't like Rise, I can tell the team behind it really do care. But if they base it's success exclusively on toy sales, I'm not sure it'll make it. Maybe my area is bad, but this line does not move. Nothing like the old line, and nothing like it's competitors. I've kept my eye on it because I'm genuinely curious about new figures, but I haven't seen a single new toy since the figures it launched with. The four turtles, april, splinter, meatsweats, whatever fills the footsoldier gap, and whoever the mystic villain is.
