Taking my Tat Hat off for a second I entirely agree. I have no interest in collector items: I like toys and toys should have fun gimmicks so I should applaud these over £300 MP toys. These, however, look like Poundland KO's of Transformers. Send them back in time ten years and none of us would believe they are mainline TF toys!

That last image of Optimus... Is that a legitimate transform mode?! Yes it is. That is the gimmick for the Scout class: the alt modes for them are designed to look like the robot is in mid-transformation. They look so shit. I must have them all. I mean... I guess... We've had a lot of Optimus Primes that turn into complete trucks. So... you know... this is different... At least... Windblade I like the look of, though - I need a small-scale Windblade. And it shall be this one.

If you called it an homage to Jetfire's gerwalk mode I might have accepted it (I wouldn't) but, well, that looks stupid.

And that's not a new gimmick! Transforming is what Transformers do! Stopping half way and calling it a special mode is just cheating!

Or, as Ralph suggests, they're the new Action Masters.

They are the missing link between Action Masters and Action Master Elites.

In person the Megatron and Grimlock Scouts look VERY Action Mastery (especially Megatron to the extant it looks like a homage) so I need to stay away from all shops. The Bumblebee and Starscream less so.
They look like fun tat toys but at £9? Hmmm.

I tried to resist!!!!
But Megatron Scout looked so much like the old Megatron Action Master I HAD NO CHOICE.
It is so shit. I cannot defend it. But it's great.

I had to go and look at a youtube review of the Megatron Scout to understand what the gimmick with these is.
Steering well clear then!
Jeez…

Going by the one I have had a go with it feels clear this is an attempt to test the market for small characters with robot modes only. Megatron does not transform. He sits down. There is no pretence he turns into a tank with a head popping out or the like. He is a robot sitting down!

They have a high fiddle factor. -Ralph They don't transform fully. If I had one as a kid that would drive me INSANE The Firecons drove me insane as a kid as I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong with transforming it (turns out, nothing )

Although this half-transforming gimmick does sound utterly ridiculous.

I want one - but can't find them anywhere for some reason. Perhaps the toyshops around here are just too smart to stock them.
