Another difficult one this. Kakuryu is my favourite character from the show, but that's not what we're voting on here. And in this case, as with the Monstercons, it's hard to actually get excited about any of the individual robot modes because they are all a bit rubbish. And it's even more difficult with Dinoforce because they're all so uniformly coloured - none of the inidividual robot modes really stands out.
As with the Monstercons, then, it comes down to which shell stands out the most. And this one is also hard, because they're all pretty neat - with the possible exception of Yokuryu, who doesn't really work for me. So by default I'll just do what I always do... and go for the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Sorry everyone else - T-Rexes are just cool.

Ah cool. I prefer these guys then. Not easy to make them out, but the shells look interesting.
What does our resident Dinosaur expert think to their dino-shells?

Kakur- kaky- kakuri- the Triceratops/Slog one gets my vote easily. These guys are all about the cartoon and their complete stupidity and cuteness. Which is ironic as I think they are the first Decepticons to be actually shown to have killed humans on screen.
These guys also use their shells like western Pretenders rather than following the Masterforce technique.
Anyway, Kakuryu is one of my holy grails. It's the Japanese toy I really want to own one day. (Which will be hard to find one online until I can spell his name right)

I will vote against Phil! 'Phil' isn't one of the poll options. And as far as I can tell Phil hasn't declared his voting intentions. Martin

Phil is considering which of these robot dinosaurs, as opposed to shells. is most like the Dinosaur it's meant to represent.

Phil is of the opinion that Dinoforce came first before the Monster Pretenders: They're ready for the first 1989 Japanese catalogue where as they're absent from the UK line up, a frequent indication (S2 Pretenders) that the toys in question aren't ready at the start of the year.

I'll always pick the Ankylosaurus ... which has the advantage over the others of not having a Dinobot to compare it to!

The things inside aren't supposed to be dinosaurs, surely???
As for the shells, there are so many different dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and prehistoric sea creatures, I find it annoying that the Dinoforce repeat the five that the Dinobots turn into, and add just one new dinosaur to the TF range. Very unimaginative.
(Which reminds me: Like Swoop, Yokuryu isn't a dinosaur.)

And aren't the pretender monsters based on Japanese monsters or did I just make that up

Remember that Christmas back in 1992 in Transtrip-land when Happy Huffer met the Dinoforce? Probably not, but here is a clip:

A much better battle scene then what we got over here in 1989 - although it's still somehow not as dynamic looking as the others. Anyway, look what I found on Ebay (after this thread prompted me to have another look)! Only the shell, but my existing Slog inner robot isn't too far off the colour scheme and can fit inside nicely.

Do they last better than the Western shells? IIRC the western ones have a tendency to go a bit icky over time.

Yay, none of them go voteless, and the new dinosaur is winning. But I realise I was wrong in thinking Gairyu is the first TF dinosaur not copying one of the Dinobots. Dile was apparently an Iguanadon and Noise apparently an Allosaurus. tfwiki.net/wiki/Dile#The_Headmasterstfwiki.net/wiki/Noise#The_HeadmastersSo what's the 'dinosaur' headcount by 1989? Allosaurus - Noise Ankylosaurus - Gairyu Apatosaurus - Sludge, Zaur, Rairyu Iguanadon - Dile Pteranodon - Swoop, Graphy, Yokuryu Stegosaurus - Snarl, Slugfest, Doryu Triceratops - Slag, Kakuryu Tyrannosaurus rex - Grimlock, Trypticon, Overkill, Goryu Is that it? soundwavesoblivion.com says:
All three apparently have strength 7 and speed 8.
Wingwaver the leader is the most intelligent and bravest. Machtackle is the toughest. Despite wielding a 'Multiple Dash Gun' and a 'Multiple Tacker Gun', Dashtacker only has firepower 1! Wingwaver is slightly less skilful than the other two.

I vote Machtackle. I know Wingwaver probably looks the neatest, but I like Machtackle's colour scheme and his legs aren't stuck together - indeed, he stands rather proud with them apart.
I have the gift set box of these and will always reach in and pull out my Machtackle when I fancy a quick fiddle.
