It's not really a relaunch. This is books 7-12 under the Scholastic imprint that started last year. It's just good that with each batch of six they're doing they're putting one new title in among the reprints and this time they've got the benefit of Charlie Higson's name to promote it. I'm looking forward to playing The Gates of Death but peeved that unlike the last new title, Port of Peril, they aren't doing a collectors' hardback edition. Scholastic's paperbacks are about as cheap looking as you can get.
I've been buying these because although I already have the books being reprinted (twice over from previous reissues with new covers), this time they've done new interior art too. The style is much more modern than the original art, and although I don't like it as much, it's pushing the books to a new generation again.

Very pleased to find none other than David Warner will voice the wizard Yaztromo in the upcoming FF audio drama series.

I expect it'll be on here when it's done: www.fightingfantasyaudiodramas.com/It started as a kickstarter 'one of those things we don't talk about around Ralph', but I think the pilot CD (Firetop Mountain) did as well and I didn't buy that until well afterwards. The website does imply they'll be on sale through it. Lisa Bowerman is in the new ones too. It's going to be a set of four CDs based on another four of the early books.

Think I will take a gamble on this.

I bought the first CD to decide whether to back the Kickstarter for the next four. I liked it enough to do that. It smashed all its stretch goals, which meant they could afford people like Warner. Firetop Mountain isn't quite as dynamic in the action scenes as Big Finish's Pathfinder stuff, but the subject matter being FF books makes it more appealing.

The Kickstarter audio CD set came today. 270 minutes of drama on four discs. Just in time for a listen over Christmas.

Been playing the Firetop game this evening. It's done really well, preserves the text based decision making of the books but has a visual representation of the map and a more interactive combat system that uses the book method but moves it a step toward turn based strategy. Simple but fun.

Pinwig today has battled his way through train strikes to attend Fighting Fantasy Fest, a one day gamebook convention in London.
Currently listening to FF book writers explain methods of planning gamebooks.

It's the third one, but I haven't been before. They've all been end of August/start of September. Nicely organised: two panel rooms, large dealer area and signing tables for the guests. Lot of artists here including Chris Achilleos. It's in the University of West London so using the lecture room facilities and canteen for food. Both Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone talking. Oh and Peter Darvil-Evans!
I was undecided on coming, but the fact the only way to get the limited edition hardback version of Assassins of Allansia is to get it here tipped me over. I managed to get the hb version of Port of Peril and I cannot have an incomplete set!
Was just an arse getting here by train. Because of the strikes the early London trains were all super slow, stopped everywhere. Stations I've never heard of!

Compared to the come to bed look the creature is giving on the original cover, that's positively tame.

Probably one of the scholastic sets. Is it the one with Firetop Mountain in, or the Deathtrap Dungeon set?
