Ratchet knew how to die well in the comics, especially the final time in TF US #78 when he brought down the Ark with Megatron, Galvatron, Shockwave and Starscream with him. That's the way to go.

Prowl made one miscalculation when faking his death. He assumed he would be shot by someone with a powerful weapon, and so programmed his facsimile construct with smoke grenade in neck to go down with just one shot. It was a dead giveaway with hindsight, but Megatron was too busy gloating to realise it had been more than “almost too easy, Starscream”.
