Right. I seem to be slowly amassing a pile of spoken word and soundtrack records so I need a player. The problem I have is that I am utterly confused by reviews online. I don't need a super-douper expensive one as I really won't be listening to much music but the cheap ones often have bad reviews for damaging records. As I have picked up a few limited edition short-run releases this is a worry as they can't be replaced if damaged by the player.
The first record I plan to play is BAGPUSS THE SOUNDTRACK.
I find looking at record player reviews really tough, as you never know if bad reviews are because the product has issues or if they are just from super snobby audiophiles.
I understand that the cheaper briefcase style ones don't have adjustable weights on the arms and can have too much pressure, potentially damaging records, but I don't know if that is an issue, or just an issue if you are a super high-end collector
Inside was a record player. It felt a bit cheap and tacky out the box and I got The Fear but it plays absolutely fine and does the job. Of course it was tested by side A of THE MUSIC FROM BAGPUSS.
The Bagpuss release is lovely. Very nice feeling sleeve and inside was a postcard with a download code and a large booklet. Very nicely produced item. Good graphic design on the packaging. Also sounds good.
