So the finale. {Spoiler}Absolutely called it in Episode 1 - Tim Shaw would be back in the last episode.
We've had a bit of an arc plot, but not one focusing on the Doctor - It's been about Graham and Ryan coping with Grace's passing and getting past some emotional hurdles.
Have to say though after two sterling episodes in a row this felt like a step back.
So New Year then - Resolution. DNA of the most dangerous creature - it's either a Dalek or Davros.

{Spoiler} So New Year then - Resolution. DNA of the most dangerous creature - it's either a Dalek or Davros. I mean sure, but why not just SAY it. As much as I enjoyed the series (half of it just a break from the Moff I think), the trailers this year have been absolutely dreadful

I mean, how does that make any sense? If they really really cant manage 10 episodes a year, makes as many as you can on an annual basis. Plenty of shows only do 6 episodes a year. Maybe a long break before a relaunch like this year works, but when its coming back, by the looks of it exactly as is. And Im now struck by the thought that the move to New Years Day is because someone at the Beeb decided it meant people couldn't complain about no new episodes in 2019.

I have no doubt that is exactly why Doctor Who is on New Year's Day.

I don't think so. It's just as valid a move as changing from Saturday to Sunday. There have been what? 12 consecutive Christmas episodes? That's probably more than Morecambe and Wise. I'm bored of tenuously linked Who Christmas stories, New Year's means it can be anything. If I was Chibnall I'd have requested that. Somehow it feels right given this series has distanced itself from everything that has gone before completely.
I've got out of sync, I'm watching the Norwegian one at the moment. I don't mind the next series is early 2020. I think because there is no connection to the past at all this time that it almost feels like an adaptation of the format rather than a continuation. I look at SJA, Torchwood and Class and see all of those shows in this series. It's like it's in that mould and not the actual series.
What's interesting is that a long break will kill the momentum gained by the relaunch. Back in the Tennant heyday of this new series the BBC kept the show alive between seasons with DWA and the like, but I can't see a young audience staying with it when there's nothing for a year.

Its the momentum loss that worries me. As I said whats the big new shiney selling point in 2020? Same cast, same Chibnall, same format.
Why not do a couple of specials like they did for Tennant? New Year, Easter, late Summer/early Autum and Christmas. Then there'd only be 4 months or so at most between episodes.

Who knows. It's the same when they split that Matt Smith series into 2 chunks. Someone at the BBC made that call.
It's an outlier as far as drama goes with it's extended series run, I agree make a shorter if you can't produce the 10 or 13 episodes. I really think this is going to hurt the momentum.

You don't give one of your main shows a big push which results in a significant audience increase then yank it off the schedules for a year. For the life of me I can't see how this can be spun positively. I'm actually furious. This is how you kill a show's momentum stone dead, especially with kids. -Ralph

He copped to it being an instruction from higher up as soon as he was no longer producing Who.

Oh I have no idea who is behind this latest mad decision. It's still idiotic. It makes no sense to give a show a big relaunch then pull it for a year. Makes no sense at all.
