It gets worse when you try to explain what it was like before 'answer machines' and phones were chained to walls.

I run into this kind of thing quite a lot teaching kids. It's surprising sometimes what they have no knowledge of.

On the other hand, maybe it isn't that surprising. A lot of these things are no longer really a part of life - there isn't really a huge reason to know about obselete technology if it doesn't feature anywhere in ones life.

AMAZING article on the recording of the first episode with CG recreations of the sets (by the chap who has done similar articles in DWM). So clear and precise.
BUY IT (when the publisher is back from holiday).

*screams*
Since the Target range came back, the spines have been white/cream.
The spines of the Targets of the 14th Doctor specials are...BLUE!!!
Does not match! Argh!

Blue spines seems a bit unnecessary. They didn't have to do that.
I saw a promo thing for that new hardback that says it's a target novel when it clearly isn't. I bet in time there'll be a paperback revised/edited reissue in the target format like the other hardbacks.
Four novelisations in a row though. Let's keep that up...

No, they did not need to have blue spines. All the other New Targets have white/cream spines. These three DO NOT MATCH.
TCORR is a Target book, and not just because it says it is on the dust jacket. I ordered this £15 HC thinking it would be a Big Novel. But no. It's very thin, ie Target length. Which means it will be reissued in the proper trade dress later!
Bastards.

They needed to have Blue Spines to match the end of the range Targets

No they didn't. These are part of a line of New Targets that's been running for a few years (they are even listed inside as 'also available'). All have white/cream spines.

Spine coloured moans aside, the Target of The Star Beast is pretty good. Better than the TV version, in grand Target tradition.

Little more than a transcript of what was on screen. No additions or expansion of any kind. This should have been great: there was so much opportunity to expand on the No-Things, the Ship, etc. One for Target completists only. -Ralph

Read the novelisation of the repeat (!) of THE EVIL OF THE DALEKS. It is mad that this exists. Fine for what it is, but not essential.
I don't believe for one moment that 'Fraser Hines' wrote a word of this. I suspect all the lifting was done by 'with Mike Tucker and Steve Cole'.

Very inventive, using tricks that can be done in print but not on screen and expanding and filling out the story impressively. Highly recommended. Best Target since The Day of the Doctor. -Ralph

Found the 1971 book in Smiths this morning. Quite a surprise; I didn't realise it was out. Unusual for mine to have the Chronicles books in straight away.

I skipped on the Tom omnibus as...those old strips aren't very good. Sorry!
The golden era doesn't begin until the 5th Doctor's strip run.
6th and 8th Docs had the best runs overall. So far.

Aren't very good? How very dare you. Try telling Rusty Davies that, he turned one into a TV show you know!
It's true the strip became a little more cerebral when the fifth came in, but Tom's stories are classic comic fun.
