Not doing great here. Still felt dreadful this morning but had to go to work as I knew there was Stuff Only I Could Do Today. Bumbled my way through an update meeting with manager during which I could barely remember what my workload was. Then off out (I work in a visiting support service) which was a trial today. In between I turned myself inside out at a few cafe toilets. At 4pm I had to admit defeat and logged off remotely. Hopefully I can make the time back by shortning breaks this week. Threw myself on the bus home and had a brief moment of light relief when I spotted a heron from the top deck. Hurray.
I should take tomorrow off but I can't as there will again be Stuff Only I Can Deal With. Such is the nature of working with people.

HEELLLOOOOOO SPORTSFANS!!!!!
Very sorry for my recent lack of postingness, but we've had a slight tif with the ol' electronic computoring device (THE F£$%!£*!! son of a $%@*!!!) but we're back now.
Those Earthquakes you've been feeling? That's Mrs Shockprowl's belly. It's now the size of the planet Mercury and has developed it's own gravitational field, playing havok with the Earth's own gravitational field, as you'd expect. Apols to all.
Hope you are all ok, I'll catch up in the comming days I'm sure. Peace and heafty errections to you all, my brothers.

The week begins in sluggish and lethargic mode. Had some real issues getting up this morning and I was extremely zonked by this afternoon. Not ill, just extremely tired. Not sure why, as I had an enjoyable weekend and in theory should have been recharged and ready to go.
Ah well, time to change my Atomic Batteries and see if a new set will get the turbines to speed.

Flaked out just after 6pm last night. Now up and feeling a bit more fresh if rather lightheaded. Unfortunately, I am now covered in itchy red spots from waist to head. Obviously I can't go into work now until I've been checked out by a GP (incase I have something contagious - might be measles!). Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks.

Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, according to NHS24 I would appear to have a textbook case of measles. However, I would rather speak to my GP and have an appointment for 3pm. I do hope it's not that and just a minor lurgy or a bad week looms large.

If it is better that you know so you can avoid spreading it about. Not exactly something you intended on getting so no need to feel bad about something unavoidable.

Indeed. Hopefully just some weird lurgy: I'm not one for making GP appts willy-nilly.
Time for another lie down!

I thought babies got vaccinated as a kid to prevent measles? Odd to hear an adult has it.

I thought babies got vaccinated as a kid to prevent measles? They do, but it is still possible to get it as an adult even if you have been vaccinated is my understanding. Less likely, but not impossible. Karl

Eeek, not good. Back in the City of tomorrow after a (brief) stay in Teignmouth. I could see the Estuary and Railway line from our Caravan but it was a caravan and my back is now knackered from sleeping on it's sofa. Also I appear to have eaten something that's played my stomach up. Readers of the Generations 2011 thread will be aware that HLJ have had problems with my card over the weekend. It was turned down in the Bristol TRU yesterday and I was told to contact the Fraud team. So I rang them up and they listed the suspected dodgy transactions back to me. All of which were kosher. So which bit of "Buying things in local shops and from websites that I regularly use" do you think it was that threw the fraud tag on my card? Yeah thanks for doing that the weekend that BBTS want my money for TF3 toys and HLJ want my cash for Generations 2011. I've been a loyal customer of Satan's own bank for 20 years but this was a real inconvenience especially as founf out 50 miles from home and going in the wrong direction! GRRRRRRR

I have returned from seeing the GP and I am not a happy bunny.
Turns out I have chickenpox, which I am told is both "very rare for an adult to get" and also "much more severe for adults than children" and was promptly signed off work for a week before I could get a word in or pose a question about work. The Doc had looked up what my job was and deemed it unwise for me to work with vulnerable people as the condition is "highly infectious". I'm told the spots will take longer to shift but that symptoms should lift about a week after onset (so Saturday at the earliest). Told not to apply creams and there are no magic meds: just to rest and drink plenty of fluids.
I am also under medical orders not to do the 5K on Saturday, even if I feel better.
Phoned work, who were great, taking it on trust that I have a sick line and that there is no need to send it in before coming back next week. Management who live locally have offered to bring supplies round if I need them. I am, however, not allowed back before Tuesday. I am therefore effectively quarantined for a week!
I'll need to try and catch my line manager tomorrow morning as I'll have some client stuff to pass on now but otherwise a week of cabinfever and discomfort await. Balls!
Expect me to spam this board like never before as the four walls close in on me!

My late Mum caught Chicken Pox off me, she was in agony....sympathies Ralph.
Re the card thing, its probably to do with all the net transactions, sometimes Banks automatically block transactions after a few internet shops as they consider it odd behaviour...happened to me but my Bank have an auto line to confirm things...

Cheers all.
I am not someone who likes to be inside too much in a day so this will not be fun! But as I was told by the Doc, chickenpox when caught by adults can lead to pneumonia so I will not do anything stupid and plan no excursions further than the local corner shop or hole-in-the-wall machine in the next few days.
So...Transformers, eh? Aren't they wacky?

My bank did it to my card when I went away last year, the annoying thing was that I had told them twice ahead of time that I was going, but when I used my card on the first day it was declined. Getting it reactivated took a 25 minute international call that cost about £20. I complained so much that they debited the cost of the call to my credit card and when the amount turned out not to be enough they topped it up when I got home.
Bad look Ralph, I remember having as a kid that was bad enough.

Owch, not good to hear that it is Chicken Pox Ralph - you very much have my sympathies. Take care of yourself and I hope that you vanquish it swiftly. In the meantime you should definitely feel free to spam away.
I had an issue with my card being blocked a while back, because of a couple of failed attempts to make donations to a Red Cross appeal (there was summat up with their "type in the displayed characters" verification thing and retrying it got my card blocked).

why is it on the one night I have the house to myself and want an earlyy night, do my neighbours start drilling the walls at 9pm when I go to bed and *then* I roll over and knock water all over the bed at 4:30 am? ?

I had a most unpleasant night. I shall spare you all the details.
I must be ill though as I've started reading a Gary Russell book voluntarily.

Hope things go better today Ralph.
Card-blocking hasn't been a problem for me - well apart from that time my details had genuinely been stolen. Weird that it would happen if the spends were at usual places. Sometimes if I spend a lot in a short space of time I will however get a call to check it's me doing the buying.

Only had my card blocked once and that was about a year and a half ago when someone intercepted my account details during an Amazon transaction and went on a spending spree. Bank caught it within an hour and everything was resolved very quickly. I was most greatful for their timely assistance! Haven't bought anything from Amazon since. An online store only has to have security issues once for me to avoid them. Incidentally, a slew of folk on TFW2005 would appear (he said carefully) to have had their accounts compromised recently around the same time after using TFSource. Which is enough for me to avoid that particular web store.

I must be ill though as I've started reading a Gary Russell book voluntarily. -Ralph Good grief! Dost thou not have anything else in your to-read pile that would be better for you that that? I'm currently working my way through an old Poul Anderson novel that I found in a charity shop. Mostly because he is on my list of "authors to get around to reading at some point" and I hadn't managed to do so yet. (I'm doing a thing of going back and forth between authors whose work I am familiar with and those who I have yet to sample at the moment). Karl
