Are they still predicting early snow? Perhaps we'll skip autumn this year.

And literally in the space of a few minutes the autumn weather arrived and it's howling round the house!

After a much required long-lie I jumped a train randomly to Dunbar on the coast and pottered around the harbour looking at the battery (where big guns used to be!) and castle ruins in the (warm!) sunshine. I even had a nice chippy meal looking out to sea. I considered going for a coastal walk but after a couple of hours the weather was turning and I had otherwise exhausted the delights of Dunbar so ran for the train just as the rain arrived.
Got back to the Burger then went to the sorting office and became enraged (see Postal Woes thread). Got home and put a burger and chips in the oven. Went back a few mins later to check. There were several bangs and flashes. In a state of Dull Surprise I assumed it was the fat in the burger popping and thought: "move it to the grill". I then felt the bizarre urge to tweet that no, the cooker appeared to be on fire as the bangs and flashes continued and I had a look down the back and saw some fire.
This state of Dull Surprise continued for a few minutes until I realised that THE COOKER WAS ON FIRE. Phoned the Fire Brigade who turned up exceedingly quickly and made it safe. They inform me that the cooker is dead. It has ceased to be. I'll phone the letting agency in the morning. I expect them to be very unhappy but it's no-one's fault.
Nerves fucked, as they say. Had I not checked the cooker the outcome could have been rather more serious. Phew.

It could indeed have been far more serious. You had the presence of mind to summon the fire brigade though which was for the best.
If the lettings agency have any sense they will realise that it is just one of these things that happens - it can't be the first time this has happened to a property they let out I would have thought.

Bloody 'ell, Doc! Extreme Danger!
I've ordered rope for a wobbly bridge that I'm building for Piglet (and Squid when she's old enough) in the garden. I'm very excited about it! It's not the Golden Gate bridge or anything, but it'll be one wobbly bridge! Especially as I've accidentally cemented in the post ever so slightly rhomboid.

Spent 4 and a half hours windering a round the National Museum of Scotland yet still only saw little of it. It's got a lot in it. As well as the nightmare fuel of the Millennium Clock. Brrr.

Yep, there is a heck of a lot there. I was there a couple of weeks ago but it was overrun with school parties so I was forced to beat an early retreat. I am very impressed with the face-lift it has had, they've done wonders with it.
Not the best of days today. Feel like just about everything I went anywhere near went wrong. Par for the course for the week before a holiday though I guess. Ah well, three days left of the working week.

Went to Glasgow Riverside Museum yesterday. It's the replacement for the perfectly decent transport museum. It's a bit crap though. Badly designed with a horrible sickly green paint over all the walls and ceiling. Displays which look like they are from an art installation rather than proper museum displays: ie bikes, cars etc put up high on walls with no access so you can't see them properly. There was even a fancy 'model ships merry-go-round' thing but it was poorly designed and was actively damaging the models as I looked! Interactive displays that either don't work well or are not user-friendly. Most unforgiveably, very few items actually have a card, etc telling you what they are! Dreadful. The old place was splendid but the Council said no...
However, all crimes are negated by the most fabulous museum type thing ever: a Sinclair C5 Simulator ride. Oh yes.

I did a talk today at Piglet's school about being a paramedic. I took an RV (Rapid response Vehicle) and showed them all sorts of kit that I use such as the monitor, oxygen masks etc. I had a fantastic time, and dare I say it the kids did as well! Piglet later told me that she was very proud of me!

Did you climb in and say "Jet Set Fucking Willy!"? Andy Surely a mandatory reaction to such a thing....? One more day of work left before my holiday - today was spent fully engaged in the race to the finish line as I try to get things tied off and squared away before I finish up. But soon I can look forward to two weeks of not going into the office, with some time down in Surrey to see the parental unit into the bargain. Think I might take a wander up to Hendon and do the RAF Museum there whilst I am in the area - enjoyed the site at Cosford so it would make sense to take in some of the rest of the national collection given that it is just a matter of jumping on the Northern Line and heading up (avoiding encounters with any still functioning Yeti of course - filling out UNIT debriefing paperwork becomes tiresome after about the fourth alien/robot/monster/mad scientist encounter).
