Hello.
Called Larkfield depot to find out if I lost my phone on the bus. No sign of it, and a woman in the background was helpfully yelling that I "shouldae come in on Friday" as if it would have been less lost then. Ah well. A minor inconvenience. Worse things happen at sea and all that.
A major inconvenience is that I still haven't heard back from the Grdauate Admissions Office at ISU about my application. Today is the first day of the spring term, so it doesn't look like I'm leaving any time soon. Damn it.

Taking a serious look at my spending. On a pay freeze and earning quite a bit less than the job I was in this time 2 years ago but I seem to have lost control of my budgeting completely and I've just not been saving either as a result. I've had a look at the numbers and set a new weekly budget. Will also require being very frugal for next 3 months so I can put some money aside for emergencies. Should not be a hardship: I have plenty of things to occupy myself with (not to mention the fabulous cinema card) and the more mild winter is allowing for going out for walks. Plus, there is a weekend in Brum in February.

I do not believe the Universe had sufficiently warned me how unpleasant a prostate exam is. 8 hours later and I still feel a bit wrong!

Got a letter from Iowa State today.
It was a bill for $741 for the room I stayed in for 2 months during my internship.
It's less than I was expecting to be charged, and it's a relief to finally pay it, but it wasn't exactly the news I was hoping for.

A fair chunk of change there, and they certainly weren't in any great hurry to actually bill you were they?

*checks xe.com* Cheaper than what renting a room here for 2 months would be.

Interrim review at work today.
Not happy at all, nice to see all my hard work goes unnoticed.

I always found work reviews a bit of a waste of time.....
Off to the smoke tomorrow (looks at clock, today actually) to see my Mother after I do the school run. So naturally my tummy decides to be unhappy just as I'm getting in to bed.

I could care less if they were productive, just accurate it's what my salary is based on. No good review means no increase.

I've never been in a job where a review results in any salary increase. I get paid and that's it. Hence why I find reviews pointless. I never have anything to improve on, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Had a really good turnup with some finances long since owed to me and its been a morale boost to say the least.
Also got a random turnup from Slimming World with a generous offer and a new program to get back on track with.

I always find great difficulty in writing stuff for my annual appraisal. I can pinpoint what I am not good at but I was brought up to believe that you should never, at any cost, talk about being good at something. I may have internalised that a little too much when I was younger.
The first full working week of the year is nearly over, and I will be very glad when it does end. Not that I am not making good progress - in fact I feel I am well ahead of the curve in a lot of respects - I'm just not yet full adapted to the whole idea of my alarm clock ringing at 06:30 once again. Fortunately, I commute by train so I can just plonk myself into a seat and doze back off for half and hour until I reach Edinburgh and there is something approaching sunlight to be seen.
Planning a cinema trip for this weekend, and hopefully a good long wander in the countryfide areas - I feel like I've been cooped up in urban environments too much over the course of this week.

This week has mostly been one fluctuating anxiety attack since about Monday evening, for various reasons. I am feeling a lot better now, and I think a quiet evening at home with some music, some television and a good book ("Good Luck, Yukikaze" the book I put aside for The Odyssey and which has now given me my marching orders regarding finishing it) will complete my settling back onto an even keel.
Thinking about a few minor lifestyle tweaks though - starting with dealing with the clutter that has built up in various parts of my house, an extension of what I have been doing with alternate storage for my dvds. I could do with streamlining my living areas a little bit and having a little less.... stuff... everywhere.
(Also, I seem to have put my neck out at some point this week. It is currently somewhat sore and I have to point my whole torso to look to my right. I feel like I've been manufactured in the early-eighties for all the neck articulation I can muster)

Sounds like the gloominess and low light levels of a January without snow are having their depressing effect on folks' moods. They certainly have been affecting me. If people think that may be a contributor to their feeling down, try to spend time in brightly lit places.

Fine start to the day. Quick jaunt to chemists for Dad. Trip into town for comics, back home and then straight out to take Susie for a constitutional.
Bit of exercise in the admittedly rather cold air does wonders for the spirits.
Spot of internetting before drawing for the day/evening.

Apparently a cinema trip was just the tonic that I needed to perk me up (that and some good news on an upcoming possible family holiday). Managed to time my cinema trip to perfection so that I walked out of one film, into the queue for tickets and then straight back into the fleapit proper for film number two. Then straight out of the cinema onto my train home for a late dinner and an NCIS episode.
To top it off I got home to discover that my copy of More Than Meets The Eye issue 1 had been delivered whilst I was out.
All told a pretty positive day really.
