In all seriousness Nick, I would strongly urge you to look into alternative Unis. I think the effort will be worth it. Yes, keep plugging away with ISU but at the end of the day don't be overly loyal to somewhere that has already let you down twice. The worst than can happen is that you end up with a few offers but at least you'll be sorted.
And speak to M. He knows about this kind of thing.

I have no love of ISU at all- my primary motivation is to get back to the people that I worked with during the summer and the friends I made while I was there. It's good work at a fantastic location in a beautiful area, at an insitution that just happens to be run by chimps that don't talk to each other or the people they're supposed to be supporting. If today's call doesn't yield any useful information I'll start having a serious think about my future and where it will take me.
Meanwhile, the item waiting for me at the sorting office was not in fact a Lego Death Star, but rather some extra ram I ordered from Dabs. I emailed the Lego seller about it on Tuesday but they haven't replied. I went on eBay and sent the seller a message that they have 24 hours to come up with an explanation (or, preferably, a Lego Death Star) or I'm going on to eBay Buyer Protection to get my money back. They picked the wrong time to f*** me around.

The week has ended and I am still standing. I feel obscurely like this is some sort of phyrric victory. Not worthy of an Honorname or being remembered in the halls... but nevertheless, in successfully making my way off the field of engagement in one (mostly functional) piece this week I feel vaguely like I have achieved something.

Finally got to talk to someone at ISU that knew what was going on. I've got some useful information that doesn't get me anywhere soon, but should hopefully get the process running again. I just need to email every professor I can find in the relevant departments and find one who needs work done, and fill in another application form. Again.
Yay.

A sausage roll or a sausage in a roll? I'd go for the latter personally.

Deary me.
Spent most of the last 24 hours feeling very depressed and down about Mum. Not helped by some friction with Mother in Law about us looking after dog. Said dog is following me round the house like I'm the pied piper.

Sorry to hear that Phil. We are of course sending prayers and channeling for your mum's recovery.
I dare say the dog will be wondering what is going on, and has latched on to you. Susie is my second shadow.

This morning's task was the laying in of supplies for the week ahead. I will never enjoy shopping for boring everyday items. Then a haircut followed by finishing off the LEGO SW Home Set set. I could twirl Admiral Ackbar about in his chair all day.

Out to the cinema this afternoon, after an early lunch. Picked up the new Argos catalogue on the way back, along with topping up the perishable goods supply.
Think this evening will be spent with a film or two - once the washing is hung up anyway.

Well, I've contacted the eBay conflict resolution centre about my missing cosmic WMD. I checked the seller's feedback profile and it looks like nobody else who bought a Lego Death Star from them has left any. This suggests that nobody got their Death Stars. "Take the money and run" seems an odd choice for a seller with nearly 300 feedbacks for similar gear. Maybe the guy got hit by a bus or something. According to the site the seller has until Jan 30th to sort things out or we take things further.
I said I wanted a replacement if possible but if not I could do with getting the money back, since Toys'r'us is skint and I have no shifts next week, nor for the foreseeable future. Good times.

Well, my parents are talking about divorcing now...can't say I'm too shocked, but still, quite a big life change.
I'll of course take my mother's side and stay with her, since dad's an unmitigated tw@t

I think I was fortunate - my parents divorce finalised when I was away at University, so I was never really there for the actual practical bits of the splitting up part. Still and all, it is never an easy thing for all involved. Karl

What a frustrating weekend. Despite piles of watching, reading and listening material that has built up over Winter (and which I had decided to start making a dent in) I have found myself unable to concentrate and pretty much done nothing other than read one article and spend far too great a time staring at the computer screen. Gah!

I had various plans for what I was going to do today, but when I woke up it felt like a good morning for staying in bed with a book - so I demolished fifty pages of Downbelow Station and then stirred myself. I decided to scrub my original plans for the day and instead went out to visit the ducks on the canal before coming home to spend some time on the sofa watching some DVD's.
Good news was had in so far as the prospect of a proper family holiday in the spring is coming closer to being feasible. Will be nice to go away as a family, we haven't done it for a while.

Been trying to formulate a standard letter all day to use as a base for my emails to the *checks list* 18 prospective employers at ISU. I've got 3 lines. And I've just realised that I forgot to bid on the Japanese version of Puzzler Fiend that somebody had loose on eBay.co.uk earlier this evening. The only silver lining is that it went for slightly more than I was planning to bid.
