Week 42: What is the best Targetmaster Autobot on the 1987 UK catalogue? You may recall we decided we were only voting on the new Targetmasters in the main poll, and treating Hot Rod and co as carryovers from the previous year. An opportunity to vote on all 6 will arise shortly! ILLEGAL POLL!!! -Ralph

When I surveyed the forum on this, the consensus was only do the new Targetmasters here, so that's what we're doing.
All 6 on Monday in the extra poll.

Sureshot gets my vote - never had the toy or played with it. Great colour scheme, a friend had Crosshairs which did nothing for me. Point Blank is fine, but the colour scheme on Sureshot does it for me.

Crosshairs this week, by a whisker. He's the only one I had as a kid, and I actually remember the day I got him standing at the Co-op department store in Nottingham with my Grandma, taking far too long choosing between the three. She still reminds me of it!
I bought a complete, great condition Pointblank as one of my first, adult collector vintage purchases, and he's pretty great. But Crosshairs has childhood nostalgia going for him, and I do love the rugged vehicle mode design.

I voted Blot.
I also voted (rightly) to exclude Hot Rod and co. from this week's poll. We are voting on _new_ toys, not last year's toys repackaged with different guns.

Different guns you say?

Ah but in this case they're replacement guns and the comic said it was OK!
Incidentally here Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup have duplicates of Sureshot, Crosshairs and Pointblank's guns.
Similar will follow next week, as will ore of the new Targetmasters not having the right guns

Martin I voted to include, but it was only just shaving it for me, both arguments had value. The clincher for me here was the toys didn't just include a new gun, they had been physically altered to use the new weapons. So what would you do with Super Ginrai then? Similar modifications to the Targetmasters here, but different character.

Of course in today's lines, the Targetmasters would have all been re-used characters and we'd have Targetmaster Optimus, Windblade, Bumblebee, Bumblebee, Bumblebee and possibly a black repaint Bumblebee.

I always had Optimus down as a Headmaster, not a Targetmaster.
Now Megatron, he's be a Targetmaster!

So what would you do with Super Ginrai then? Similar modifications to the Targetmasters here, but different character. I dunno. You have to draw the line somewhere. If you hold original Hot Rod and Targetmaster Hot Rod in your hands, they feel like the same toy holding a different gun. If you hold PM Prime and Ginrai in your hands, I suspect they feel more like different toys. Martin

I always had Optimus down as a Headmaster, not a Targetmaster. Now Megatron, he's be a Targetmaster! Nowadays, they'd be Headmasters, Powermasters, Pretenders, Throttlebots, DuoCons - Everything! I guess Megatron (and anyone who held him) was indeed always the first Targetmaster - in the cartoon at least. In the real version comics, the first Targetmaster was JOEY SLICK!

Pointblank for me. Mainly as I always thought his car mode looked cool. I've still never owned a G1 Targetmaster, and its a pity these guys never got new versions like the Decepticons did (yet at least).

I'm surprised how much I like the Bios for these guys. Toy-wise they all look fairly ok. But Crosshairs just pips it.
