I'm inclined to call foul on the wiki on that, he's always looked more like an Indycar to me. It's hard to tell, as I think he's the only G1 open wheeler not based on a real car, and as 'generic single seater' could be anything. Mirage is a Ligier, Drag Strip a Tyrell, Speedstream is a Williams. Who else?

Joyride suffers because of the joined legs problem. Getaway does because he's just dull. So I guess Slapdash wins by default because the robot at least looks interesting?

I went with Joyride - a great colour scheme and wonderful vehicle mode. He also has a neat robot mode too - and his 'engine' makes the most sense to me. For a toy with such a round head, he sure had a very square one in the comics!
Very surprised that Slapdash is winning - a bit of a partsformer and he has a very wonky robot mode almost on par with contenders Meanstreak and Armada Sideswipe. His swapping of engines also annoyed me as a kid - although I when I bought him, I was pleased to find out that they could both remain attached in both modes - although as the default was always the non Powermaster engine over the Powermaster port, it made Lube seem a bit redundant. Why not just make him able to turn into that specific engine?
Getaway is a bit dull isn't he? Only his door wings make him interesting. He was definitely supposed to have separate lower legs before the cost cutting kicked in though.
Looking forward to voting for one of my all time favourite toys tomorrow - as well as my first ever Toys R Us purchase!

Well these are both far superior to the Autobot cars in every way. They just look so much more dynamic and interesting. The answer, then, has to be... er... one of them.

Yes, not much in these two. Both look decent toys, I even handled a Darkwing once. I remember being impressed with his size. It's a good feature that they can combine. Techspecs are decent enough, nothing too standout, but ok fairly fun bios. I'd have thought they'd be stronger give their size.
I think... I think Dreadwind. Toys are equal in my mind, but I prefer Dreadie's bio slightly.

Like the Autobots these are also pish but I vote for Dreadwind as he answered letters.
The Powermasters just weren't good toys (other than Optimus and Overlord).

Darkwing! That is all.
Strange that the Autobot Powermasters were all big playskool type cars and the Decepticons were realistic(ish) detailed jets. The only shame was that the Nebulans couldn't sit in the vehicles. Combined mode never did much for me though.
I remember seeing the ad' and wanting Darkwing while my nest friend at the time wanted Dreadwind (of course, we had the names the other way around back then) and the day these two appeared in the comic we found the toys on our first walk to our new local Toys R Us.
I also used to draw comics of the pair messing around and basically doing what they want - and eventually it was what they ended up pretty much doing in the actual comic.

Darkwing.
Swing wing beats fixed wing nearly every time for me when it comes to plane toys.
The Seacons aren't the only team to suffer their combined mode being cut on the UK 88 catalogue: The Dreadwing is missing too here!

Has there ever been any accusation that these two are gang moulded? They both share identical colours and when they become Buster & Hydra the pale blue on the Powermaster version becomes red on the Godmaster version on both toys.

Like the Autobots these are also pish but I vote for Dreadwind as he answered letters. He didn't answer mine. I had Optimus and Doubledealer. I'm sorry to say Optimus was inferior to the 1984/5 toy in every way. Giant robot had silly little arms. Other modes just didn't look good alongside 1984/5 equivalent. Doubledealer was great in falcon and missile trailer modes. Best just to pretend those are his only modes. Back to Dreadwind... Martin

Were Darkwing and Dreadwind the last in a series of great Decepticon toy range duos? (Not counting Micromasters.)
We've had Astrotrain & Blitzwing (1985), Runabout & Runamuck (1986), Cyclonus & Scourge (1986), Apeface & Snapdragon (1987), Battletrap & Flywheels (1987), and now these guys. Autobot duos were rarer, apart from the original Wreckers from the 1985 range. They tended to come in 3 or more.
1988 was an odd year for having almost all the Autobot and Decepticon teams equally matched in terms of numbers, but medium-sized Powermasters were the exception, where the numbers followed the Hot Rod, Kup & Blurr vs Cyclonus & Scourge 3-vs-2 pattern.
(Edit: Yeah, I'm ignorning Pretender Beasts, you know why.)
