Phil, whilst I'm sure the diagnosis isn't what you and Liz wanted to hear you are quite correct that it doesn't change anything about the youngsters identity at all. It is just a label, but if that label opens up the door to support and services (a door I know can be hard to pry open) then perhaps there is a positive that can be found in that.

Totaly agree with Karlos. He sounds like a happy little chapy to me, and clearly has devoted parents.

Those who visited will appreciate the significance of this:
Jonathan's just opened the fridge and pointed.
Liz said "What do you want?"
Jonathan said "Yogurt"
Easily the most complicated word he's ever managed. In context, and correct.
Needless to say he got a yogurt.

He seems to be choosing his moments of speech with precision and care. Food requests and laying claim to daddy's toys..... :-)
But in all seriousness, this is great to hear.

Today didn't go well.
Jonathan has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). A number of techniques were used on the diagnosis but the scale they measured him against placed him just bellow the level necessary for a full blown Autism diagnosis (AUTISM needed a score of 12, he got 11).
Needless to say we're a bit shocked by this.

Not sure yet.
They made it clear that it's a measure of the behaviour they see and that it might change and that they can see him developing.....

Sorry to hear about this but you must look on the positive side. This result might not be as bad as it initially looks and only time will tell if it is as bad as you fear it might be.

Ah, that's a hard diagnosis for any parent to hear. Still you might want to look around for some support groups in your area, where you can meet parents of other kids in the same situation.
