already know some
when you line all the problems up:
* Language delay (ie he hardly talks) * Learning Difficulty * ASD
that's a hell of a lot to have on your plate as a child.
And as parents too. We're moving his nursery to a different one which is better for him. They applied for the funding for a one to one worker in June. Last week the funding authority wrote back and said "but isn't he going somewhere else?" Couldn't they have done that in June? So if that's sorted the school can recruit, then CRB check, then Jonathan can start and if we're lucky that might be before Christmas .......
Then we've got his statement, which is going to have to be redrafted now anyway in light of the ASD diagnosis. It was horribly wooly about when Jonathan woulod have someone with him.... basically he needs someone 100% of the time he's there so he can comunicate. The statement didn't make it clear and when Liz chased it it turned out they decided he needed someone 60% of the time..... and not told us. But by signing the statement we'd have agreed to that.
Liz, bless her, is doing most of the work on Jonathan's needs and education, I can't keep it all in my head and she can, thanks to her former career as a social worker, get the system to work.
Given the ammount of stress it's all causing it's no wonder we're both suffering here. Lots of nights for me where the brain won't shut off, lots of pain from the CMT which doesn't like stress.......
Deep breath..... relax.....

Jonathan can read numbers.
We were driving through Weymouth and I said to him"look, bus" and he signed 2. Now we intially thought it was two buses, but no, it was a number 2 bus. So the next time we saw a bus we tried it and he got that right. And the next time.
Experimentation shows he recognises the symbols for numbers 1 to 5. His ability to sign larger numbers than that back to us is poor so that will effect our ability to test him on numbers larger than 5. But a HUGE step forward.

At least that's some good news in all of the worry you've had recently.

Things Phil has found out about his son this morning:
1) He no longer likes riding on Buses due to the noise (sound is an ASD stimulus for him)
2) He can recognise the sign for McDs and knows they sell chips
3) He'd rather walk all the way up Tudor Drive than get on a third bus (stick kt2 into multimap and see what you get)
4) Despite not having been inside for 18+ months he knows thaT the building halfway up Tudor Drive is a library and has automatic doors
5) That he knows you have to be quiet in the library.

Pingu cake! Well done Ayres family!
Man, I'm trying really hard not to do the typical "look how much he's grown!" business. He's 5, and I haven't seen him in person in 2 years. Of course he's grown.
