After spending far to long studying the pictures compared to Hotspot I'm doubting the combiner gimmick survived the changes. There is a gap in the foot thats probably about the right size for a port, but mostly seems to be a gap to store the heel without ruiing the curved rear of the car mode. The shoulders look too small (very slightly), but the wheel and front of the car seem as though they would prevent any limb from connecting unless they can swing well out of the way.
Also (not) interestingly the render and the on display toy vary slightly. The upper part of the inside lower leg is a sold surface on the display toy, on the render it was mostly an open gap with the diagonal bar going across it.
And it looks like the entire ecto pack/roof is removable.

I know it works on me. I think I've bought every new character to appear packaged in 84-88 style packaging since it first got reused for Botcon 97.

Thats not true. Ehobby reissues I missed, but they didn't have character art and I do have one of the boxes for some reason. But Hasbro releases the only thing that springs to mind thats kind of missing is Apex Armour and that because I already had the Takara reissue and the UK box was so defaced by multilingual text I couldnt justify the buy.

This is quite weird if you think about it. It's a crossover, yes, but then we've had that several times before including the recent Trek one. This has spawned an entirely new character to do it. When has that happened before?

Because in the past everyone was too concerned with making sure well known TFs get redesigned into iconic vehicles of the other franchise (TF/Joe), of forcing the human characters to pilot narcissistic giant transforming mecha made in their own image and not involving TFs at all (SW/Marvel).
This makes way more sense to me than trying to force a 35 year old G1 character into turning into the Ecto-1.
