The original rumour said Siege in unreleased G2 Combat Hero colours tfwiki.net/wiki/Megatron_(G1)/toys#CombatHeroI'm sceptical. Combat Hero is a little too close to standard Megatron, and if it was Siege, surely it would be a Siege exclusive ala Sideswipe, Greenlight & Skywarp. *IF* I was betting on what this was, having discounted the earlier rumours, I'd say G2 Green Camo Titans Return Megaton. We will see ....

It's a nice homage, just to the wrong toy! Shame. Still, money saved.

Suspect it is not being the Green G2 version that is wrong.

The unreleased toy wasnt exactly the best of colour schemes, but at least it was coherent. Making the legs and feet black really doesnt help.
Which is annoying because they did a better job of creating the combat hero chest shape than I expected them to do.

Why would he have green camouflage on Cybertron? Did they have forests?

Suspect it is not being the Green G2 version that is wrong. Or the purple MEGATRON RULZ one. -Ralph

Hmmm. This is not a great colour scheme - and the implementation isn't that brilliant either - the thicker green stripes, proportionally, than we on the unreleased G2 toy kind of just make it look cluttered to my eye. It is nice to see them branching out and doing something a little different but... Not my thing I think.

It seems like Hasbro and Takara are doing everything they can to avoid giving us the green megatron.
Counting this unreleased one, there were only five megatrons in G2, and only one is everyone really wanting a proper update for. Which seems the one they keep skipping.

Takara wouldn't produce a green Megatron, it doesn't exist in Japan save as BWII Megastorm. Hence the purple Legends version of the TR return.
So that leaves Hasbro special edition toys....

That's baloney. G2 Sideswipe didn't exist for them, but that didn't stop them from producing a G2 Sideswipe masterpiece complete with Yanegir madness. Or G2 Bumblebee. Or Marvel colored Grimlock, all back when they didn't ignore everything unless it was presented in Sunbow.
Windblade didn't/doesn't exist for them, either, and that hasn't stopped them from using her. They can make whatever they want. They know they have fans all over the world, and they know their domestic fans are as savvy about the western fiction and toys, as we are about the japanese fiction and toys. Probably more so since the western fiction is more akin to a juggernaut by comparison. Green Megatron is a twofold. It's the same deco for two character. Megatron and Megastorm. All they'd need to do is pack some minorly different stickers.
The reality is they likely chose purple because Hasbro probably had plans for the green to be in one of the cancelled box sets, to mirror Laser Prime.

I agree about the box set. Which makes it weird why the idea hasn't resurfaced here given other alleged box set figures came out under the exclusive banner. It would make sense if the Siege tank mode looked more like the combat hero one, but it doesn't.

I'd guess, this is the evolution of that plan, but by the time they were ready to do it they opted for Seige. Its the newer mould, it was designed as Megatron and is more solid.
Best guess for unreleased colours instead of green. Im still convinced Armada Megatron is in the works.
If thats the case I think I'd have been tempted to switch the Armada remould to Galvatron colours and stick with G2 green.

Or just do purple.

There is also a slim (but highly unlikely) chance that Hasbro chose this deco because Takara just did purple g2 megs (different mold but the two molds are nearly identical), and Hasbro is planning the next Megatron toy to be a full update of the G2 design.
Yeah... and then they'll announce that they're done with G1 for now, and the next lines will be BW and RiD based, and they're giving us all gold and gummy bears!

I'm trying to decide if I want the Megatron
On the one hand, it should go nicely with Ultimate Giftset Version of RTS Op done in 2012, which uses the colours from the cancelled Combat Hero Op.
OTOH....
The Megatron colours aren't really different enough from the std Megatron. More importantly the Siege Megatron isn't a good G2 Megatron, who needs a shoulder cannon, not an arm cannon. Yes, you can mount the fusion cannon in the holes on the top of his backpack but it doesn't look right there, whereas the cannon does look right shoulder mounted on TR Megatron.
Decisions....
The lack of a UK pre order thankfully puts those off for a bit!

My big problem with G2 Megatrons, is I have both the original green tank with G1 engineering, and the purple Hero Megatron, which is one of the first articulated toys.
So far, there has yet to be a G2 megatron that improves upon Hero Megs. There's been no green megatrons that look remotely like the G2 design (bludgeon repaint specifically). And most of the repaints of better toys are purple or the cancelled Combat Hero. I'm happy to see a G2 homage, but given the choice of the still adequate purple Hero, the TR purple megatron repaint, ir the siege Combat Hero megatron retool, I still prefer the megatron that has the right shape.
It TR Megatron, who looks nothing like G2 Megs, had gotten a green repaint over purple, it's still a better toy than the original G2 megs. It might have won out. I have the TR repaint, but no clue where to put it. Though I think I may slap an autobot symbol on the siege repaint, and say he's Megaplex having defected to the autobots. Spin the "evil clone repaint" trope.

Possibly the best modern G2 Megatron is the Universe 2 Legend, which nails the shape, improves the leg articulation at the expense of the arms but get the colours a bit too real world and not G2 enough. We talked about redoing earlier toys with enhanced articulation a few months back - see tmukhub.proboards.com/thread/10165/g1-tweaked. Big green G2 Megatron is a prime candidate. Dump the large solid grey body and legs piece for something like the G2 hero's pieces but up scaled. But the G2 Hero is one of THE greats in my book. Such a shame it's never had a G2 green repaint.

Mmm... Chicken. And gummy bears...
Anyway, as with most everyone else here it seems, I got excited when I saw this announcement... and then immediately disappointed when I discovered that they'd done the wrong G2 Megatron. Though there's been plenty of debate on the whys and wherefores already, so all I'll say is that I wish they'd done the one that everyone wants, and not this one that most people didn't remember about until the TFCC Pretenders set. Oh well.
Still, I don't have the normal release, so I may just get this anyway, just to show Hasbro that we do want Select stuff. And maybe eventually they'll give us the correct Megatron. Which, of course, is one with a black helmet and yellow sunglasses eyes.
