It's weird you know, Bluestreak is Prowl in different colours but that's fine because he's Bluestreak. Tigertrack just looks like Sideswipe in funny colours. Must be the lack of fiction behind him.

I've been mulling over this, and I think I've worked out why these Diaclone repaints aren't grabbing me.
See, with the Diaclones we got, there were no straight flat colour swaps. Inferno and Grapple got different crane assemblies, Hoist and Trailbreaker different heads and back ends and Prowl got an interesting paint job, and the body limbs were different colours. You didn't just swap Bluestreaks grey for white, you painted a police car deco, swapped out the red limbs for black.
This is just a dull red/yellow swap, it's the laziest option. Tigertrack still has Sideswipes white limbs, so he just looks like Sideswipe in a yellow jumper.

More! More! I'm trying to find every reason possible not to buy this, that was a good one.

The Pit is where Phil throws people who buy less than 5 Micromaster Weaponiser bases.

I think I've sussed Hothouse's tank mode from Airraid It's basically the carrier mode with the chest front pegged into the top of the rear section of road - there's holes there for the blast effects ports to recess into which aren't used in other modes - the upper legs pegged under the rear section - there's pegs there unused by Airraid - and then swing the chest peg up, put the control tower bit in upside down and mount the combined gun parts on that facing forward

Selects T-Wrecks for 2021?

Post by Toph on Sept 23, 2020 21:55:47 GMT
If they're desperate. I think Selects BW Grimlock is way more likely.

BW Grimlock would be done from Dinobot <cough>if<cough> they do one, as per the original BW surely?
Love my original T-Wrecks.

BW Grimlock would be done from Dinobot <cough>if<cough> they do one, as per the original BW surely? Love my original T-Wrecks. I'm pretty sure I have T-Wrecks, but I honestly can't remember. I was in a weird place back then that I now regret where I usually wouldn't pick up a repaint if I had the original. If they did T-Wrecks from this, I insist they give him the original toy head with the mutant mask/wings!

Post by Toph on Sept 23, 2020 23:21:28 GMT
Okay so I was thinking about a potential Selects T-Wrecks needing the toy head to make me really happy, then I started thinking "what about Grimlock?"
I certainly don't personally want him to be just a straight up repaint of Dinobot.
So what here would be the best? 1) Straight repaint of a potential Kingdom Dinobot 2) New head based on the toy's robot head 3) New head based on the toy's mutant mask 4) New head based on Grimlock's head?

Confused as to the second and fourth options there? Are they not the same? Or do you mean a particular Grimlock for option 4?
|
|
|
Post by Toph on Sept 23, 2020 23:39:02 GMT
4 is Grimlock as in based on G1 Grimlock. Since the toy was just a repaint of Dinobot, it's Dinobot's head that BW Grimlock had.
So 2 would be the Toy Dinobot's head, which is very different than Mainframe's animation model.

Ah, right, gotcha, yes. Sorry, long day.
But it’s have to be option 4 in that case. Just to highlight that this is actually Grimlock, and not a re-skinned Dinobot.
Or, option 5 - Bayverse Grimlock’s head. Because why not?
Although in seriousness something like that would be necessary, I think. G1 Grimlock’s head wouldn’t necessarily look quite right on Dinobot’s body, so some stylisation would be needed to make it work. Maybe.

Furmans Beast Wars comics had a Grimlock. How accurate was that head?

The Wiki speculates that T-Wrecks was in fact meant to be Grimlock, but they ended up not going with that name. So a Grimlock from Megatron isn't totally unlikely, although a Grimlock from Dinobot would be more interesting, and thus my preference. This being Selects, though, the repaints that they'll give us will be something that we weren't even thinking of. So they'll clearly re-paint and slightly re-tool these Beast figures as Animorphs.
