In the midst of clearing out some things at the moment, and found a bunch of old VHS Transformers tapes. Fond memories of the days when more than two episodes seemed quite a lot...
Anyway, I was going to chuck them out, but if anyone here wants them then let me know and I'll pass them on. :-)

I still get misty eyed about the print ads for ARRIVAL FROM CYBERTRON.

I always questioned the choice of the episodes sometimes. A lot of them were very random and not always the best. Of course whoever made these choices just had to make sure Carnage In C-Minor was released!

I had this dilemma a while ago and decided eventually that I'd bin the tapes and keep the covers, but I think I kept the complete tapes for arrival and the movie for some retro watching fun one day.

It's also amusing the amount of different companies that were releasing tapes here and there, seemingly at random - certainly a different era to now, when 'brand management' is a bit tighter.

If you have some 3D specs to hand, I scanned in the 3D Leaflet that came with the 1990 VHS release of Desertion of the Dinobots:

My only guess as to why GWLP got released so many times is that British distributors, when dealing with these US franchises, would choose a "safe" episode. Something that could sit on the shelves next to tapes for younger kids and not cause complaints from the parents.
Jem got similar treatment with Music Is Magic, even though that's an AKOM episode and therefore the animation is terrible. I haven't looked closely at Action Force but I'm sure they had a designated episode that got released over and over as well.

But doesn't TGWLP start with the opening line "I feel like an absolute bloody fool!"? That was a swear word when I was young.

Speaking of VHS Tapes - I had a bizarre Twitter request to see if I still had VHS copies of the Star Dubs of Masterforce and Victory that I could share...

The topic of TF VHS's came up on the Hub Saturday call. Some mad covers out there.

Acquired Arrival from Cybertron, Desertion of the Dinobots and The Rebirth on VHS. I like the covers.
I may need to acquire more...

Ivw so far grabbed one US vhs that appears to be in lovely condition.
Very much hoping the video player that plays ntsc still works.

I regret losing all the doctor who ones because I sold the tapes. Blake's 7 had no value so I ditched the tapes and kept all the covers. For transformers I've either got the tapes still, somewhere, or the covers.
Of course I also have important ones like the VHS covers for Star Cops.

Still got all my vhs, taking up way too much room.
Transformers ones have such a great vibe, feel like somthing should be done with them.

Actually now I think about it, I still have several boxes of VHS tapes at my parents' place. Among those are all the Beast Wars videos. Lot of other stuff too that just hasn't got as far as being processed in the ongoing sort out, or isn't on DVD. I do have hundreds of VHS tapes still, just not in this house.

VHS covers are the future. Snagged a copy of Key to Vector Sigma/War Dawn from Ebay to arrive at some point. There is something about the trade dress of early TF VHS's that really appeals: the placement of the Tf Logo with some toy box art and the black and white grid. Simple but nice design work. -Ralph

Yeah I dont want to get rid of the home recordings without checking whats on them and I never have time to do that so....... I know I have a load of Ed I taped while in the US and you cant find Ed anywhere so I'll need to transfer those at some point.

I do wonder if there will be a retro VHS revival at some point. I know vinyl is massive again now not as a nostalgia kick but because it has a valid alternative sound and the packaging just makes discs nice to own, but audio cassettes have a moderate following too and there's no real benefit to those over any modern music format. Would anyone choose to watch VHS over blu ray other than being as an exercise in nostalgia? I can see me watching VHS tapes again for fun. Especially old recordings of things not available in any other format and other stuff to relive the vibe. Especially the few Who tapes I kept.
