The best VHSs are the pre Movie Doctor Who designs

I think the thing about the glory days of VHS covers is that they predated cheap DTP software that made them look shite in the 90s. The difference between vinyl and CD is the size and therefore the complexity of images used. The difference between VHS and DVD is really the way in which they were made.

Now I find myself searching eBay for early doctor who VHS tapes to replace ones I sold! Damn the hub!

I feel the need to reclaim a copy of The Mind of Evil as the b&w version was not on the dvd or blu ray releases!!!

There are some VHS Who tapes I kept for reasons like that. Ones where there were versions of episodes not on DVD, which has probably changed now with the BR sets being so all encompassing, or stories that were 'cleaned up' too much for DVD.
It also bugs me that things like title sequences are recreated from scratch these days, it's nice to have some VHS tapes that still have the episodes as they were originally broadcast.

VHS tapes are just nice to won as an actual item I guess. Especially old Transformers ones.
But I do still have ones like Ghostbusters, music ones and all my Blakkadder collection.

Actually now I think about it, I still have several boxes of VHS tapes at my parents' place. Among those are all the Beast Wars videos. Lot of other stuff too that just hasn't got as far as being processed in the ongoing sort out, or isn't on DVD. I do have hundreds of VHS tapes still, just not in this house. Yeah I dont want to get rid of the home recordings without checking whats on them and I never have time to do that so....... I know I have a load of Ed I taped while in the US and you cant find Ed anywhere so I'll need to transfer those at some point. And then I had a look and found they had been reuploaded. Download time.

Pinwig began The Task today. Mum has decided to clear the loft, which means all my stuff up there has come down and gone into my old bedroom, which is already crammed with all the stuff that I didn't move into my house. So now I need to sort, recycle, sell and bin.
Started on the vhs tapes. Boxes and boxes of them. Complete sets of series that now cost tuppence on DVD second hand. They will have to go. The problem is all the home recorded ones with the tantalising prospect of snippets of other bits on the end. Can I be bothered to check several hundred cassettes in the hope there's something vaguely interesting there? And also check for TV programmes that I recorded that never had DVD releases?

If only. We didn't get a video recorder until 1984 so I think that's unlikely. I was thinking maybe some interesting adverts or bits of news programmes that ended up on the end of something recorded. But there are hundreds and hundreds of tapes. I could spend the rest of my life going through all these on fast forward and find nothing interesting. Doctor Who-wise I may still have McCoy's seasons as off air recordings. If I didn't ditch them when I got the BBC videos. Other stuff too but nothing that hasn't appeared as a DVD extra.

And of course THIS ONE! I was severely disappointed when I purchased and watched this... View AttachmentI can't tell if that is a genuine video or one of the best pseudo-photoshops ever.
