Tickled by the romantic legend of Joey Slick and his one-man crime wave when in possession of the mentally incapacitated Megatron, the Matrix-bearer Katy Witwicky modified a Browning M1910 pistol so that it could be reconfigured into a rudimentary robot form, without altering in size. She installed a simple electronic brain inside it and brought it to life, programming it to be loyal and obedient to the Avengers' security guard, Randy 'Roadhog' Horton. She gave it to the ex-Road-Jammer as an early Christmas present.

Browning shoots a variety of non-lethal capsules. His trigger is just for show - you get him to fire by pointing him in roughly the right direction and saying, "Take 'em out, gun!" or words to that effect. He aims himself and never misses his target. Browning has a peculiar sense of humour. He enjoys startling people by creeping up behind them and shouting, "Bang!" or making the sound of a machine gun or whoopee cushion when least expected.

When the Cameron Space Marines suggested that the Matrix-bearer Katy Witwicky occupy the free moments of her maternity leave in constructing a size-changing Pretender to replace one of those killed battling Skyquake's Predators, she accepted the challenge. Conscious that most Autobot Pretenders were white males, she initially intended to do something a bit different with Metalhawk, until Eros/Starfox, the father of her child, jokingly requested she make one in the likeness of her best friend, Dani Santella. Just to spite him, she made the new Autobot look like Gregory Peck.

When in his Autobot form, Metalhawk transforms into a futuristic variant of an F-15 Eagle, capable of flying and fighting in space. He can travel from Earth to the Moon and back in 15 minutes. He carries a jet rifle and a titanium sabre, and executes a fighting move called the 'Shining Arrow'. While in mid-air, he aims and fires an arrow of light at enemies on the ground. The arrow becomes a giant sword of light, striking a final blow from right over the enemies' heads. You should see it some time. It's pretty cool.

One of Metalhawk's eccentricities is that, unlike Bumblebee, Jazz, Gunrunner and Skyhammer, he insists on shouting, "Pretender!" whenever he phases from human to robot form. He serves on the star-glider 'Stalwart' under Captain Sam 'Spacehiker' Wainwright and Commander Allan 'Backstop' Silver, alongside the Autobot former spy, Punch, and his Powermaster partner, Sergeant 'Hellforce' Jynk.

After Godmaster Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Sky Lynx and Death's Head had vanquished the Liege Maximo, the three Autobots retraced the monster's course through space to find and destroy his base of operations. After passing through a seemingly endless series of devastated star systems, they finally reached a dark, depressing, degraded corner of the cosmos referred to in whispers simply as... the Hub. Miraculously, not all was dead there. The Liege Maximo had kept alive a handful of Decepticons captured centuries earlier, when he annihilated the invasion force led against him by the ill-fated General Jhiaxus. The Autobots freed the prisoners and informed them that the war was over.

Foremost among the liberated Decepticons was a Sixchanger called Sixknight. Unlike the rest, he was capable of interstellar flight under his own power, and declined the offer of an escort back to Cybertronian space.

Choosing to return to the Milky Way by a different route to that taken by his rescuers, Sixknight came across a drifting spaceship wherein lay seven Thunderian refugees in suspension capsules. Their names were Sabera, Siamara, Leopard-O, Ligra, Bobkitten, Servalis and Tabbykat. Sixknight took a shot at the ship to test his targeting systems, and missed. Then he flipped a mental coin and took the ship in tow. He parked it outside Grand Central Space Station, stole its fuel and left its crew sleeping. They eventually awoke and managed to hitch a ride to the new Cats' Lair on Planet Beast.

Sixknight is a conflicted individual, unsure of what to do with the rest of his life. Will he prove to be hero or villain?

Sixknight is armed with twin photon rifles. His signature attack is his 'Rolling Transformation', whereby he continuously transforms through his six forms, disorienting his opponents.

In 1991, after defeating Galvatron by using water to short-circuit him, Spike Witwicky surrendered the bodies of both Galvatron and Fortress Maximus to NATO forces, but he kept hold of Cerebros. In the years that followed, Cerebros was modified to transform into a Honda NSX rather than a giant robot head, and he and Spike served with the Avengers for seven years, during which time they helped to destroy Ultron once and for all in 2005, albeit at the cost of the life of the former Neo-Knight, Dynamo.

Spike was intrigued by size-changing Pretenders like Bumblebee and Jazz - and Metalhawk, recently created by his niece, Katy - and by superheroes like Ant-Man, the Wasp and Swift who could assume a very small size indeed, and wondered whether a Headmaster could also be a shrinking Pretender - a real human within an artificial human. In the year 2020, Spike was in his mid-fifties, and like Stylor on Nebulos he was beginning to feel his age. But early retirement did not agree with him.

Spike had never been to another planet - the furthest he ever got was when he tried to rescue Buster from Ratbat's flying island, and that had not ended well. And Earth's Moon, of course. But now he heard that Ratbat had returned, on Planet Beast, in a new body based on that of Scorponok.

Spike pulled strings with the government and re-gained custody of Fortress Maximus. The old boy had been gathering dust after being stripped of his weapons. Cog was also missing, having been destroyed by the criminal Arno Stark two years earlier. Fort Max badly needed an upgrade. Spike put in a call to Hoist. From what Spike had heard, swords seemed to be all the rage on Planet Beast...

In both robot and battle station mode, Grand Maximus is a walking armoury. His battle station form is fully equipped with communication, detection and radar equipment, while as a repair bay he has extensive re-fit facilities for almost any Transformer and a wide range of spare parts. Despite his size, Grand Maximus is both very strong and very fast. Though seemingly awkward, his bulky configuration moves with well-oiled ease. Grand Maximus's deadliest fighting move is the 'Triple Beam Attack', in which he eliminates the enemy by simultaneously firing his proton master rifle and the dual tachyon beam cannons mounted on his chest.

Provoked by the early victories of Godmaster Optimus Prime, an Autobot binary-bonded to Ginrai, an immortal Asgardian, the scheming Loki saw the potential for mischief in donning the guise of a Transformer himself. Searching the annals of Transformer history for inspiration, the trickster god came upon the story of Doubledealer, a Double Powermaster mercenary who sometimes took the appearance of an Autobot and sometimes that of a Decepticon, and who was destroyed in battle in the last days of the war. Loki chose this Doubledealer to be the model for his own new mechanical alter ego. But whereas Doubledealer had been a living Cybertronian binary-bonded to a human from Cameron (Knok) and a cybernetic shrikebat from the planet Dromedan (Skar), Doubleclouder would of course be controlled entirely by Loki, with the second Godmaster engine slot taken by a co-operative Drakillar sourced from the planet Halfworld.

Like Doubledealer before him, Doubleclouder is armed with an intercontinental ballistic missile that can travel 3,000 miles in 30 minutes. He is equipped with enough explosives to flatten a mountain range, and uses a solid-light blaster in robot mode. He can draw power almost beyond measure from his Asgardian master, as well as accessing Loki's vast store of magical tricks, which includes telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, the generation of force-fields and, best of all, the casting of illusions.

A legend by nature of his existence, Overlord emerged as a new and deadly Decepticon anti-hero. He was one of 24 outlandishly named Decepticon troopers engineered to become Minispies. The others included Aaarrrggghhh, Canny, Cuffs, Nick, Prowly, ShockSentry, Shuffle, Speedbump, Sting, The Namer, Toioutta, Torque, TPAC and Zombo. Around half of them defected to the Autobots. Overlord was the only Minispy to make it across the Space Bridge to Earth to join Megatron's Decepticons on Earth, and was re-engineered to become Motormaster's scout car and Menasor's breastplate. During his time as a Stunticon he defeated Optimus Prime's scout car, Roller, and appropriated his name.

In 1989, when Megatron was blasted into interdimensional space with the Autobot Ratchet, the Decepticons Ravage and Soundwave transferred Overlord's brain into a new head for the body of the false Megatron originally created by Straxus. Assuming Megatron's identity, Overlord led a group of Decepticons on Earth for several months before those who knew his secret grew disillusioned with his performance and engineered his downfall. He briefly left Earth, and so avoided being transported to Cybertron by Primus to battle Unicron. When he returned to Earth, he located Shockwave's underwater battle station complex. In return for recruiting two powerful human mutants, codenamed Giga and Mega, to act as his Powermaster partners, Overlord was given complete control of the battle station and despatched to Klo where he was posted to the eastern land mass and destroyed twelve Autobots single-handedly before Bludgeon ordered the retreat.

On Hydrus Four, Overlord's body was destroyed by Omega Supreme. The mutant Giga died in that battle. Mega escaped back to Earth and assisted the mutant rebel Fabian Cortez in the theft of a shuttle for the purpose of seeking out Magneto on Asteroid M. SHIELD agents interfered and Mega sacrificed herself to allow the shuttle to get away. All that remained of Overlord was a small grey open-top scout car. He sought out Trypticon on Cybertron, but Trypticon considered him a threat to the peace he now enjoyed and betrayed him to the Autobots. True to character, when the Motorvators finally had him cornered, Overlord denied them the satisfaction of taking him alive.

After three years acting as ambassadors to the planet Lithone, the Sparkabots returned to Cybertron at the end of 2020 with new names and new colours, eager for a new mission. The task given to the trio took them by surprise: Take charge of three wayward, fire-invoking Battle Beasts and moderate their behaviour, turning them from delinquent trouble-makers into responsible members of Cybertronian society.

A battle-hardened survivor of the software wars of Polyhex, Hardspark's hunger for combat is only equalled by his hunger for fuel. He's tough, no-nonsense, and has few enemies and even fewer friends. He can thread a washer from 2.5 miles with a blast from his plasma cannon. His flame exhaust in tank mode incinerates on contact. His fuel consumption is considerable.

Soon after arriving on Cybertron, Strong Humongous Hippo found the Cosmic Carnival. He fell in love with it, and, when he showed them his fire-axe act, they reciprocated the love and offered him a contract. Strong Humongous Hippo is one of the strongest and toughest Battle Beasts, albeit also one of the slowest. He can invoke the power of fire to light up his tomahawks, and he's a first-class juggler, but he got too overheated when juggling fire-axes for long periods, and so packed in his circus career after a couple of seasons and wandered the sideshows, getting into fights. The management complained to the Autobots, and now he patrols the boggy border regions between the city-states of Vos and Iacon in the Sparkdasher tank, Hardspark, helping to keep the Vosian Zoids in check.

Hotspark exceeds the speed limit and every other limit. A thrill-seeker, he drives faster, uses more energy and gets into more fights than any other Autobot. He enjoys life only when he's in danger. If he's not burning rubber, he's scorching enemy Robo Machines with his flamethrower exaust. He has a maximum speed 220 miles per hour and a range of 550 miles.

Dark Dragoon Raccoon is one of a number of Battle Beasts from Planet Beast who took a wrong turning at the K'Tor wormhole cluster when journeying to Derut Four in 2019 and ended up on Cybertron, home planet of the Transformers. Unlike some of his compatriots, he decided to stick around, as it appeared to him to be a good spot for a fight or three. For a while he haunted the outskirts of Iacon, waylaying unsuspecting travellers heading into or out of Autobot City and challenging them to battle for fun and/or hand over all their worldly possessions. This was clearly not something that the civilised Autobots could tolerate for long, and he was quickly captured. He has now been offered a chance to put his love of a good fight to better use by partnering up with the Sparkdasher Hotspark, formerly known as Sizzle, to make things hot for the aggressive Robo Machine Monsters running rampant over Helex and Polyhex, and contain the threat that they pose.

Dark Dragoon Raccoon's ability to cause molten lava to erupt from the ground is a perfect complement to Hotspark's upgraded flamethrower exhaust, boosting his effective firepower from 6 to 10, hot enough to make even the Robo Machines' Monsterous combiner think twice about marauding into Autobot or neutral territory.

"Planning a battle is ten times more important than fighting it."



Wildspark overloads his circuits with grandiose schemes and cheap fuel. He acts as if his true worth is measured not by what he does, but how much he talks about doing it. If he could run on his own hot air, he'd go forever. In car mode, he leaves trails of flame in his path, and is capable of going from 0 to 200 miles per hour in 8 seconds, although at higher speeds he is prone to stalling on left turns. He possesses superior logistics and geographical data banks, and won't shut up about it.

Run Amuck Smileduck is a Battle Beast of irrepressible high spirits, finding almost anything that happens to or around her hilariously funny. She quacks with laughter and also talks to herself in a series of quiet quacks, though she is capable of normal speech when necessary. Having arrived on Cybertron with Dark Dragoon Raccoon and his crew, she spent a while roaming the great canals, reservoirs and aqueducts of Iacon, challenging Autobot Micromasters to fights at every opportunity. Prowl would rather have her fighting hostile Sharkticons, and so has talked her into accompanying Wildspark to patrol the coast of the Rust Sea near the Quintesson-occupied city-state of Tarn, with the aim of keeping the region safe for travellers. Wildspark has some great ideas about how to do it, and wishes Smileduck would take him and their assignment a little more seriously.

Run Amuck Smileduck can invoke the power of fire and conjure up blasts of 1,000-degree flame, which she can shoot up to 35 feet at her opponents, increasing Wildspark's effective firepower rating from a feeble 1 to a much more respectable 8. She can fly at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour, and carries a missile rifle that doubles as a hand-held melee weapon.

Quickswitch is completely unpredictable, changing his mood as often as he changes his mode. He can be compassionate, merciless, friendly, hateful, happy or angry, depending on what time of day it is. As a Sixchanger, he is equipped with six different modes - robot warrior, assault hovercraft cruiser, jet-propelled laser pistol, assault beast with stealth shielding, armour-piercing drill tank and suborbital fighter jet. He is armed with twin photon blasters. He currently serves as second-in-command to Groundshaker in the defence forces of Autobot City: Cybertron.

Quickswitch was greatly troubled by the news coming at the end of 2020 that his Decepticon twin, Sixknight, who he had long thought to be dead, still lived and had been freed from his captivity in another galaxy by Optimus Prime, Grimlock and Sky Lynx. "You think I'm unpredictable," he told his Groundshaker when requesting a leave of absence to follow up on reports that Sixknight had been sighted on Grand Central Space Station. "Wait till you meet my brother."

Quickswtch travelled to Grand Central and asked around for anyone who might have seen a big blue Decepticon Sixchanger. After five days of fruitless searching, he was finally directed to a group of bewildered Thunderians, led by an elderly female named Sabera (she was long in the tooth in more ways than one) who had woken up less than a week earlier after years spent drifting through space in suspended animation, only to find their ship parked outside the space station, its fuel utterly depleted. The mottled-skinned scientist of the crew, Leopard-O, played the ship's computer logs for Quickswitch, which showed the vessel being towed in by Sixknight, who subsequently ran their tanks dry and departed in the general direction of the K'Tor wormhole cluster - which meant he could be anywhere by now. Quickswitch thanked them and, after receiving a traveller's blessing from the Thunderian priest, Ligra, returned to Cybertron.

Doubleclouder's predecessor, Doubledealer, was a ruthless, battle-ready robot for rent and a traitorous backstabber, only loyal to the highest bidder. He was valued by all those who learnt of his double identity, but trusted by none. He was binary-bonded to the human, Knok, an astronaut from the planet Cameron whose team was slaughtered by a monster whilst exploring the moon VsQs, and the shrikebat, Skar, the last known survivor of the planet Dromedan, which was consumed by Galactus. Doubledealer disguised himself as an Autobot robot called Double, or a Decepticon falcon named Dealer. Like Doubleclouder, he was armed with an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of travelling 3,000 miles in 30 minutes, and was equipped with enough explosives to flatten a mountain range and a solid-light blaster for use in robot mode.

Bludgeon hired Doubledealer to pose as an Autobot pilot and bring down one of the Autobots' spaceships as it approached the planet Klo in 1991, but the mercenary found himself on the wrong side of history in the subsequent battle and was destroyed by Sky Lynx. Knok and Skar survived and made their way to Earth, where Knok helped Skar to steal cloning technology in the hopes of reviving her extinct species. They were eventually captured by the Protectobots, who took pity on Skar and transported her and her cloning facility to Iacon, while Knok agreed to work in co-operation with Jetfire's Autobots' Earthen defence forces, demonstrating how a Powermaster partner could boost the strength of a robot like Defensor by a factor of two.

In the year 2020, the Autobots concluded that Planet Beast would be an ideal long-term home for the small population of cybernetic shrikebats created by their guest, Skar, which had outgrown their temporary home in Iacon and proven unsuited to life on a wholly mechanical world.

The original Cindersaur would incinerate everything in his path just so as to make it easier for himself to find his way home. He left a trail of charred ground wherever he went. He probably fried some of his brain circuits from excessive smoke inhalation, and was known to enjoy taking flame baths to soothe his aching joints. Equipped with fusion-powered flame breath that he could either focus in a narrow stream or spray over a wide angle, his hobbies included barbecuing Autobots and drinking volcanic lava. His motto was, "Crash and burn... and burn... and burn."

Cindersaur himself was killed by a giant demon in 1989, but shortly afterwards, following Thunderwing's disappearance that same year, Sixshot began mass-producing simple-minded battle droids based on the designs of the three original Firecons, to support him in his tentative bid for overall Decepticon leadership. Most of them were sadly destroyed in the battle with Unicron in 1991, but a few survived.

The green Cindersaur-based battle droid known as Blazemonster was one such survivor. He/it produces flames from his mouth that melt the very ground he walks on. His special attack, the 'Ground Fire', consists of him shooting flames into the ground that then appear under his enemy's feet.

After they helped him recover Fortress Scorponok from the alien cyborg called Trap Jaw, Sixshot gave the Battle Beasts known as Dog Hunter the Pixelated Pointer and Killer Koala Gray a lift to Iacon, where they had heard several other Battle Beasts had found a home. However, Dog Hunter's penchant for arson made him an unwelcome guest, and he was quickly run out of town. He made his way back to Sixshot, who decided to try pairing him up with Blazemonster to create the ultimate enhanced Firecon, capable of seeing off any Zoid or Robo Machine trespassers on Decepticon territory.

Dog Hunter has the most powerful fire magic of all the Battle Beasts. He can conjure up blasts of 2,000-degree flame, which he can shoot up to 200 feet at his opponents. He is also the Battle Beasts' most proficient tracker, having the keenest sense of smell on Planet Beast, and he is a skilled fighter with his bayonet.

The original Flamefeather was the only Decepticon ever to be thrown out of the Decepticon Military Academy for being too violent. He would trash entire car lots whenever he had nothing better to do, and usually worked alone because most of his fellow Decepticons refused to work with him. The flamethrower inside his mouth could fry a football field, and he had a maximum flight speed of 90 miles per hour. His greatest achievement was talking to someone for more than a minute before flying into a rage. His highly imaginative motto was, "The only good Autobot is a deactivated Autobot."

All the Flamefeather-based battle droids created by Sixshot were destroyed in 1991 by Unicron, and Flamefeather himself died later that year during the Battle of Klo, at the hands of the Autobot double agent, Punch, whilst in the process of burning native villages to the ground.

SPARKSTALKER BATTLE DROID (a.k.a. 'Javelin')

His greatest talents revealed in the tiniest structures, the original Sparkstalker was a cryptologist who is quoted as saying, "The smallest details reveal the largest secrets." An expert in robbing memory banks, counterfeiting printed circuits and decoding binary messages, he was meticulous, cautious and obsessed with minute details, and yet, to his frustration, the Decepticons appreciated his appearance more than his other talents, on account of how his looks struck terror into their enemies. But he shot flame from his mouth with only limited accuracy, and was better equipped to light campfires than to melt Autobots. He died in 1991 in the Battle of Klo, alongside Flamefeather, at the hands of the Autobot double agent, Punch.

The red Sparkstalker-based battle droid called Javelin cannot fly properly like those based on Flamefeather, but after jumping, he/it can start to fly. Because of his lightweight size, he is very fast with his attacks. He surprises foes with his 'Fire Acid' attack, in which, whilst breathing flame, he simultaneously shoots out a javelin-like stream of strong acid in the midst of the flames, which completely engulfs his enemy.

Javelin's body was salvaged by the Autobots after the battle with Unicron, and they passed his carcass on to their human allies, for their Circuit-Breaker operatives to use as an opponent in live-action training sessions. He was liberated in 2020 when a boarding party of Surr Laser Beasts attacked a Cameron Space Control outpost, killing the trainee Circuit-Breakers who currently had custody of the Firecon battle droid. Reprogrammed on Planet Beast, he now serves as a 'house robot' alongside Sea Panic 5 in the gladiatorial arena on the Isle of Fight.
