That one continuity error did pull me out the story a bit (especially as the whole story is a continuity plant by its nature) but as it was a small moment not crucial to the plot I can let it go. I've thought of a way to reconcile it anyway.
Overall I enjoyed it. The art and colours are tremendous and a few panels did genuinely fool me into thinking they were from the 1984 era of comics.
I would not say no to a few more one-shots. It's great to see that the Marvel continuity still has some life left in it. A one-shot tied into the Headmasters mini is something that springs to mind.

Starscream being there does suggest cartoon continuity but why make such a messy retrofit for the sake of putting in a story that doesn't really need to be there? The comic continuity doesn't need both versions of the character. Almost feels like a deliberate attempt to be provocative to get attention.

Skyfire and a yellow constructicon.
I know I need to wait and see what actually is going on, but it initially doesn’t sit right with me.

Sounds like he's trying to find ways to reconcile the cartoon with the comic, but that seems unnecessary when there are insurmountable problems like Shockwave. You can see it coming though, Regeneration One and the fact Magnus appeared in #0 tells us Furman isn't going to strictly adhere to Marvel comic lore.
I like the idea of stories that patch continuity holes in the style of the originals, I keep thinking of loads when analysing the cartoon on the forensic level I go into it, but Skyfire isn't a continuity problem for the comic - his role was fine. I love the idea of exploring the Megatron/Shockwave relationship more though.

Much as I hate to say it, for me it's time for Furman to step away. Right from the off with Regen and the whole 'Marvel UK doesn't count' I feel like he's been writing these stories that don't fit in anywhere and please an increasingly small amount of fans.
'84 0 and Regen had so much potential. '84 0 as a one off, yeah sure it's a fun little tale, and I could let that slide. But a whole series?
I suspect this is going to bug me more than I enjoy it. I'll give it a try, of course, but the omens are not good.
Has anyone actually explicitly said whether this is supposed to fit into a preexisting continuity? I know it's styled the Marvel way, but has anyone actually said?

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like this either. Jetfire & Hook should not be there - they were created on Earth in 1985 full stop. Also Ratbat being in power will also irritate me, as I enjoyed his sort of rise to power due to Straxxus' death. It sort of means that the status quo is always - and always has been - unchanged.
Perhaps it's just me, but I never saw the Dinobots (or the characters that would become the Dinobots) as a pre-existing team before Earth. I just thought the Ark just selected five suitable random Autobots and gave them dinosaur modes - and the the companionship was born from there. There is no reason to use Jetfire etc. here - what's next - Chromedome with Stylor on Cybertron?
It reminds me of the Austin Powers flashback when he was young - and all the present day characters and villians all happened to go to the same school and still have their adult 'quirks' and 'scars' etc. But that was supposed to be funny - it was taking the mickey out of things like this.

Looking forward to it. I can't possibly be unhappy or happy with it as it isn't out to read yet.

I'll give it a miss, based on the description in the article and recent efforts in this area (Regeneration One, '84 0).

Perhaps it isn't supposed to be be set before the Marvel comics. If so, then I have nothing to moan about of course. (Or read).

I'll judge it when it comes out. Which will be a while as waiting for the trade.
I can see the earth Constructicons being based on an existing team or set of designs from Cybertron. Sky/Jetfire is somehow more specific and might irk me more.
What does annoy is attempting to make Starscream some sort of awesome scientist. It's not a trait he showed in the comic and barely showed in one episode of the cartoon.

Or everyone would have recognised them straight away rather than being surprised at the new toys and their abilities.

I'll be treating it as professional fanfiction - a potentially fun story that takes a different angle on the Marvel series and contains a few surprises.

Yes - especially if they were in the UK around 1992.

So I got it digitally - print copies still inbound.
Really enjoyed it actually, despite my misgivings about certain bits in the solicits and there is a bit of a commentary at the back too.

I've just had a read of the first Secrets and Lies issue. I don't think I'd clicked the print version was out. I really enjoyed that. I mean, really. Even more than the standalone issue it felt like a reading a good old fashioned 80s TF comic.

I ordered a copy that was never sent. In checking my emails this was not the first time this had happened with store x and I had forgot not to use them again.
Er, is anywhere selling this comic?

I've been looking for a good reliable seller of single issues as comic shops are not out of bounds.

I had a standing order with them for years for anything Transformers related. Good shop. Comics are bagged and boarded and sent in solid cardboard packaging. Never had a problem.
