A mass market retail release of a toy and a higher end collector product are aimed at two distinct market segments. While there is crossover between them it is limited when looking at the numbers as far as Hasbro or any other toy company is concerned.
Talk of being underhand or dishonest etc IF they do something in the future is absolute bollocks.

1) this isn't aimed at the high end collector market, like MP. This is an actual proper Generations toy, and as marketed as such, and announced as part of this "War for Cybertron" line. 2) if they release a smaller and cheaper unicron in Generations 2021, that's not a nebulous future. That's a toy that they are planning right here and now, as they are trying to convince us to buy. It would be in the design phase right now. It would be coming out at the same time that this one is shipping.
The people who spent $600 on this would have every right to feel like Hasbro fleeced them, if there was a version that's only two inches shorter and cost nearly three quarters less all along.

The people who spent $600 on this would have every right to feel like Hasbro fleeced them, if there was a version that's only two inches shorter and cost nearly three quarters less all along. 1. It's aimed at the high end collector market otherwise it wouldn't have been crowdfunded using the model they've just recently established. It would have been put out in the shops or as a select exclusive. So it's not a MASS MARKET RELEASE. 2. IF?! you are moaning about something they may do to justify being angry with them now, as they labour away designing this newer, cheaper Unicron that exists only in your rants. Speaking as one of the few here who has actually backed Unicron, so who would ACTUALLY have a dog in this imaginary fight of yours. If I buy something now, and a cheaper version comes out in the future so what. When something is new it's generally at it's highest price, later releases and newer versions are often cheaper. Or as a product runs through it's shelf life it becomes cheaper. Will I be annoyed if a cheaper one comes out. NO. Because I have the Unicron I wanted. If I didn't want it, I wouldn't have backed it. Just like everyone else who thought about it before dropping 600 on the thing. And to render your points entirely redundant - a cheaper Unicron is already out there, has previously been out there. Yes, a new one will ill be out at some point at a cheaper price but that's what happens with most popular toys. I bought MP44 Prime and paid £300 for him, and when they announced Earthrise Prime I didn't immediately feel fleeced. Andy

I would argue that anything priced at $575 is aimed at a high end collector market going by the price alone. Only that type of market can either afford the figure and/or have the willpower to make a purchase of that amount. As for whether there will be a cheaper mass market Unicron figure down the line...who knows? We have no evidence of this. It is merely speculation. There is, though, a cheaper mass market Unicron available right now: released this year by Tomy Takara is the green edition of Armada Unicron. I know it is much cheaper and available as I bought one in August.
What I have learned from Transformers in the last few years of product is that characters are being redone almost constantly in a loop and/or the gap between new versions isn't as long as it used to be. So now I just assume if there is a new Optimus Prime or a Megatron or whatever that there will be newer versions along probably within a year or two. I know that when buying figures. It is a choice I make. I can then choose if I want to buy that version or wait for the next version or buy them all. At the end of the day, Hasbro will make what sells. Bringing it back to Unicron, if it is funded and is made that tells the company there is a market for TF toys at that price and via that style of funding so they might make another one.
Meanwhile, Unicron is at 7031/8000 with 3 days and 10 hours and 51 mins to go! I am curious as to whether the closing date being the weekend when Pulse puts up Earthrise figures for pre-order will either help or hinder the last push.

If it doesn't make it, I'll bet anything that they either give it another week extension, or announce they're going through with it anyway (like you said once before).

Maybe not at 5k or 6k, but now I do think its highly possible they'll just flag it anyway without another extention if it doesnt fund.

Somehow I thought 27 inches would look taller. There's not much difference there with Fort Max. That's actually much smaller looking than I thought it would be.

It's on display at NYCC, both robot and planet mode, it looks big in person. Panel fold up in robot mode doesn't look great around the feet, back is fine. Still, it's very impressive to see, but hasn't swayed me to jump on the preorder.

I do wonder if Hasbro isn't artificially inflating the numbers.
If this thing doesn't reach 8k, the optimics of that would be really embarrassing to them, no matter what they do. Even if they're already going to greenlight it anyway (maybe especially if they are)

Even if they're already going to greenlight it anyway (maybe especially if they are) It does seem to be rising rather fast again. Maybe it is all the other stockist pre-orders coming in. I do wonder if Hasbro is cutting a deal with stockists to option X amount for future purchase, meaning they can legitimately add to the numbers without needing money up front (that's what I'd do, I assume the 8k isn't an ACTUAL minimum)
