Anyway - to sleep dear thread, we'll wake you up in 2021.

interestingly a few people have spotted some anomolies in the code for the big backer jumps that make it look very suspicious we knew they wouldnt let it fail but im intrigued by just how many of the backers are not legit Oh, I'm certain there were shenanigans on Hasbro's side given the weird way the numbers came in, but I'm unsure why some people are getting so upset over it on Twitter and the likes, it's not like anyone was tricked into backing it, and it getting made is a good thing for those who want it! It does show that Hasbro are still learning how to run a crowdfunder. I'd imagine 80% of those final numbers were partner orders being sent in. Really they should be doing that on a weekly basis to give a more realistic view of the numbers. I also wonder if Hasbro have offered a unicron stock to various stockists on an option basis, that's what I'd have done if I was them and desperate to get it across the line.

I dont understand the photos Ive seen but it seems Hasbro doubled the figure that got them too 280% funded which would leave the actual figure at a much more sensible 11000ish.

Wait. So it suddenly went from struggling to get 8k until a day to go then jumped to 11k in 24 hours?? A likely story.

Where did it end up then?
I knew Hasbro were certain it would fund before the final push because they'd shown no interest in it for a month.

"Bought extra stock for our general sale."
So now we know how Unicron crossed the line. Retailers could order more. Simple as that.

its not that simple Ralph, theres a tracking algorithm on the site that basically shows how full the bar is for backers, it works out how many backers of 8000 as a percentage of 100 and fills the bar appropriately, (anyone can view the website code by clicking view source)
This bar and the backer count had a multiplier put onto it so it filled at a faster rate than technically it should have. I think Hasbro's logic wouldve been to get it "funded" in the hope that would convince the people who were unsure to take the plunge since they would know it was going to happen.
Its very dodgy and suspicious and i wouldn't be surprised if someone wasnt looking into it

In summary it was rigged even before they started adding big blocks of 'sales' from retailers. Surely that is illegal advertising saying you have so many backers when you don't? And err.. we have no idea how many Unicrons have actually sold then.

Who honestly thought about getting HasLab Unicron?
I did.
For a few days there.
But then....
a) I did the numbers. And realised I couldn't afford it what with new roofs, extensions, new car (my car died, did I mention that?), new job etc etc etc.
b) It occured to me, that much money on a toy...?! Let's break that down. £600. It's our hobby. People spend double that on a fancy bike these days (just as a rather random example). We spend that collectively on several toys. So, one the one hand, WHY NOT? Why the heck not?! It's. Our. HOBBY. So why not. But... I dunno... It made me reconsider a lot of things. Made me reconsider what I actually should be spending my money on. I shouldn't spend that on this.
c) I've really gone off the figure. Oh I think he'll be fun! And great! And look great! He'll be amaxing- BUT... the quite visible shell-formeryness of him is a bit of a poo. And not a £600 poo. £250 maybe, but not £600. Not to me.
So, in conclusion, it's our hobby. Our life-long love. If you have the means GO FOR IT WHY THE HECK NOT?! But for me, he's no where near worth it. (As no it's nothing to do with Mrs Shockprowl...).
I just Wondered, who thought about it? Even for a moment. Who did the numbers. The ethics. Did anyone other than The Unicron Two nearly press The Button?

Not even close. £600 was always going to be way outside my ballpark when I struggle to justify £100 on a Masterpiece. And then, to my eyes, it just didn't look that good.
So no, I didn't even take the clear plastic lid marked DANGER off The Button.

As I've said before, I did. If it had finished in August as originally planned I'd have been in because I was set and ready. But I can fence sit for England, so the extension meant more thinking time, and during that time I realised that really, I didn't actually want a big Unicron. Usually if a window closes and I haven't bought something I wanted I get annoyed with myself, but with this I don't feel any regret. It's not a figure that would fit in with my collection. A big planet doesn't do anything. All the Titans have other functions as bases, but Unicron would just be a display piece. Being CHUG styled it wouldn't work for me as a display piece, it would just be a big in-the-way toy.

Who honestly thought about getting HasLab Unicron? I did. I wish it hadnt made the numbers, I am sure Hasbro could have done better if they had had to go away and figure out why it failed. The fact that they were able to go from 6 points of articulation in the hands to 15 in just the two months it was funding proves they could have. Obviously something could have been done with the panels. At the very least the ones on the sides of the legs ......Having said that. *sigh* I do still like it and once it was funded the reality was that they werent going to redo it. We might get a smaller, cheaper (possibly better) on at retail in 2021-22, but we might not. Or they might drag out the Armada mould again which I refuse to buy till they remould the chest. Whatever, going for Haslab Unicron meant I definitely would have a Unicron based on the movie. Ive wanted one of those for a long time. So then there were two factors. 1. Just how big was it? 2. Could I afford it? 1. I honestly dont know if that photos makes me want Unicron more of less. In the end, I was happy it was smaller than I anticipated. I've never really liked big toys, but if I get them I really want them to be rock solid. The problem with the Titans line is that they were never rock solid. Ive always felt Hasbro made them about 10-15% bigger than the joints were able to support. So seeing a toy only slightly taller, but much bulkier, that costs about 3.5 times more made me think it would probably be solid. If it had been 50% bigger than Fort Max I would have been back to worrying it couldn't support itself. 2. The cost. I got a balance transfer offer a few days before the end of funding. So that eliminated the racking up interest charges while I paid it off part. Made a huge difference to my thinking. and worst case senario that I dont like it, I have a play with it, then sell it, hopefully for not too much of a loss.

Usually if a window closes and I haven't bought something I wanted I get annoyed with myself, but with this I don't feel any regret. There was that too, I had the opposite reaction. When Kapow suddenly went out of stock I was a little bit gutted that I might have missed out.

I was tempted, but more in a 'I don't want to miss out' way rather than 'I want this' if that makes sense.
I'd probably have been more tempted if I didn't already have Fort Max. I don't really get on with him and he taught me that huge transformers are not for me!

Don't get me wrong, chaps, I WANT a big Unicron. I'd love it. Not for £600 mind, but I would love one. But I'd never transform it. He'd just be hauled out of a storage box every time I wanted to look at him. Stand impressively in robot mode, looming menacingly over my CHUG. IT WOULD BE AWESOME. But... can't afford it. And even if I could afford it, I'd rather pay for horse riding lessons for the kids. Or something. Too much. It costs just too much.

Yes, but what if you could make Unicron ride horses? He's big enough. But the ground needed to ride a horse upon is not. Unicron already has two useless legs that he can't walk anywhere with. Don't give him four more! Martin
