Right, that's all the Unicron posts in the same thread with the correct links and pictures added to what became the first post. Thanks for creating a new thread and moving the links around!

No Transformers toy can possibly be worth that obscene price-point. -Ralph I'm with Ralph. Also even the big guys are too big, this is just too much. It looks like a flapmaster too

Was the barge 8000 backers? I thought it was less than that. 8000 seems a lot for Transformers to reach. Do we have 8000 fans who would stump up for this?
Holy fuck! 8000 backers x $575 is a cool 4.6 million dollars!
4.6 MILLION DOLLARS!!!

This is the kind of thing that you'd have as a centrepiece in a display room. This had an air of inevitability about it. I've winced every time the possibility has been mentioned because I knew I'd want it if I saw it.

Sail Barge announcement: tmukhub.proboards.com/post/309920/threadThat was $500, this is $75 more expensive. There's some more comparisons to the Sail Barge I want to make, but Real Life calls. Back in a bit! Hasbro want 8000 backers for Unicron. They wanted 5000 backers for The Sail Brage @ $500 in a campaign running 17/02/2018 - 04/04/2018 We kept track of the numbers - see the 2 pages following the sail barge link above - after a slow start some funny things happened at around the 6 days to go mark. It passed 5K with 3 days to go at which point the numbers rocketed and it finished on 8810 - www.hasbrolab.com/At the time we looked at the prospect of a Haslab Unicron tmukhub.proboards.com/post/310796/thread - I may merge that thread in - because it was pretty obvious that if Haslab were doing TFs it would be Unicron as there weren't many other candidates. There have been other Unicrons previously, notably the Armada one and it's derivatives whereas the Sail Barge was unique in the Hasbro SW Line - it had been done by Lego, Action Fleet and Micro Machines. So that's a massive strike against the desirability of THIS Unicron. (There's a few other things not made in 3 3/4 inch SW scale, notably a Star Destroyer, Blockade Runner, Executor & Cloud City - Haslab will be back for at least one of these I'd expect) Grand Max by comparison was half the price of Unicron and got somewhere between 2K and 3K subscribers in Japan. I'd love to see Unicron happen but I'm not confident.

I am horrified anyone is even considering buying this. It's all relative. Look at the new MP prices. £320 on the new Prime, or £480 on this? Unicron looks much better value.

It does seem unlikely to me, unless there really was funny business going on with the barge and Hasbro are intending to make Unicron anyway. Surely the SW fanbase is much bigger than the TF one. A $350 toy looking for 3000 backers is where I'd have pitched this.

TF fans who do seem to be rarer, and more niche. And the really crazy ones seem to hyperfocus on SG or vintage G1.

Yes, like Dez It's possible here that Hasbro are looking at the money fans spend on 3P products. That's more MP than CHUG, but I reckon I must have spent £400 putting Toyworld Constructor together because I wanted a big Devvy centrepiece in my Decepticon MPs. It is a jump though. FT Omega Supreme was £280, a figure on a par heightwise with Metroplex but twice as chunky. £480 odd is a big jump past that.

Even if I had that sort of spare money I could never justify it to myself. There are just far, far more important things to be doing in this world. Hasbro have built up the fanbase to the point where they will just accept things like this.

This narrows the 'next Titan' field a bit though. SDCC is the teaser reveal slot isn't it. Like Trypticon's leg was. Bet they show a pincer.

And to consider my above 3P example, Pandinus was indeed £350. And he's about Titan-class sized. Not as tall, no, but in terms of the amount of plastic used and the engineering. And that's basically the cost for a limited run toy. Which is what Unicron would be. To be bigger and/or have additional features... yeah, we're probably looking at the five-hundred quid price mark. Well done, past Llama God. But yes, I'd want it to come with loads of special features, too, to justify it being not just an over-sized knock-off of Armada Unicron. And it would also start to become a little unwieldy, and would definitely need to be packaged with a display stand for planet mode. Sorry to disappoint you, past Llama God. Yeah, I... kinda like this. It looks nice. The planet mode looks gorgeous. And I love the way you can run your finger around the rim of his massive sphincter and it opens wide for you. But... that's the extent of his action features. Oh, aside from his moveable teeth and eyes. Apparently. That's it. For a toy that size and price, I'd want more. I want his head to be removable, I want there to be a small bay to launch a small Decepticon spaceship from, I want lights in his gut and his rings! I want something to make it both a worthy central display piece and a good toy! But he's not. He can't even eat Titan/Prime-masters. Even Trypticon could do that! As it stands... I'm not sure he's worth it. Sure, a limited run figure is going to be more expensive. But if Hasbro are making at least EIGHT THOUSAND of this bugger, does that really count as a limited run? We could have had more...

It's not an 8k run, though. It's supposedly a made to order run that needs a minimum of 8k. If they end up with 10k orders, they'll make 10k units.
It's not plausible, but it's possible this thing could end up with a bigger run than some full production TFs.

Trying to work out if the Armada version is good enough..... and I think it might be. It is. And what was it? A tenth of the price? Yeah, that was 16 years ago, but c'mon! Yes Armada is a bit wonky on the underside, but still, put it in robot mode against Primus in Cybertron mode and off you go. You know, he doesn't even transform. He curls up while almost his entire alt mode folds up and stows behind his legs. Yup. You'd think at this size they could do some clever stuff to get the shell stored nicely in the body/legs, but nooooo... let's just shove it on the back.
