I found this fascinating on the old Hub. Wondering what kind of TF collection people go for, and what else we collect.
I have a very fixed collection in my mind. My main collection is almost like a new G1 collection, made up of G1 homage figs from Armada, Energon, Cybertron and, of course, Classics. I guess I'm trying to recreate G1 but with new, articulate, figs (all the better for fighting each other!). As part of this collection I've renamed alot of existing figs in order to use them as G1 characters if they fit. eg Energon Cyclonus is now Spinister, Cyb Landmine is Scoop, Energon Snowcat is Onslgaught. It's a very personal thing and if a fig fits in my mind then it does, although I doubt many would fit in other people's minds. The collection, which is looking fairly healthy at the moment, isn't an attempt to get a version of EVERY G1 fig, just my personal favourates. Oh and a couple of actual G1 figs make it into this "universe", such as the Predacons (bar Tantrum-for now), and the Terrorcons, who I find fit in really well.
I also collect 6" Titaniums, which I love love love! And I have what I reffer to as my "grown-up" collection of MPs and Alts. Apart from the impossible-to-find Alt Mirage, and the none-existent Alts of Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee and Brawn, my Alts collection is now complete. Hurrah! Ravage and Swindle will received a boost soon when G1 MP Starscream arrives. And I've been a very good boy this year, so I'm hoping Father Christmas will bring me MP Megatron. Gunna rob a few banks for Skywarp in the new year. This collection is kinda screaming out for MP Shockwave, MP Soundwave and MP Thundercracker. Go on Has/Tak, you know you want to!!!
A final TF collection is my most recent endevour, a collection of every Prowl. It's hard going, but getting there!
I also have a collection of Clone Troopers, 'bout a hundred, of various colours, from Ep III. And afew Jedi's. They're just for fancy.

Hi first post on this board (had a couple on the old boards, but I doubt anyone will remember little old me ). Collections... well at the moment only MP's, Alts and Binaltechs, though I do like some of the Classics, especially Jetfire and Grimlock and want to try and get at least those 2. I've only got the 20th Prime and Skywarp MP, though I do have the G1 MP Starscream on order With my Alt/BT collection I'm doing well (not as many as Shockprowl by the sounds of it) with 20 in total including Nemesis Prime, Hot Rod and the ever elusive and (when he does appear on ebay) expensive Mirage. The one I am struggling to find is Police deco Prowl. I have the blue BT version, but it's just not the same. I'm watching a BT one on sale on ebay in the US and the final price will be over £50. Which seems a bit steep when 20th Prime only cost me that much (before they reduced them at TRU). Shameless question time if anyone has a Police Prowl they don't want please contact me I also have my old G1 collection hidden in a box somewhere. When I last looked they were in a sorry state as I was definately a child who played with his toys, poor Jazz is yellowed with chrome wear and a broken rifle barrel. I think the best preserved of the lot is Sideswipe, though Magnus I expect comes a close second.

These days I buy much less TF toys than I used to, for financial and space reasons. Mostly happy to pick up a Basic or LOC size figure from time to time and any re-issues that catch my fancy. I like picking up figures from the original line when possible.

For space considerations I have pretty much given up on collecting whole lines and rather go for figures that grab my attention.

I usually go for one of each mould for new releases, unless they look particularly awful or are that subtle combination of 'nothing new or exciting' and 'really hard to come by' that I decide they aren't worth the effort. As for legacy stuff, I've managed to get all the big stuff I've been after in the past and most of the lines I really enjoy. Apart from a few 87/88 guys, a few Euro exclusives and a handful of G2 figures, I'm pretty much done.
I have a few Brave toys and a significant number of Robo Machines now too. I'll keep buying the Robo Machines because they're cheap as chips and a good size to fiddle with, but Brave stuff is more expensive, takes up more room and is much harder to come by so I may have all I'll ever own of that.

Not collecting anything else at the moment, am holding a torch and waiting for the Animated figures to surface.

I've gone through and come out of the other side of a strong completist urge (I had almost complete RiD and Beast Machines lines at one stage). I used to try to get one of every item in a line.
Between running out of space to store them and a reevaluation of my financial commitments I have shifted my buying patterns. These days I tend to pick up only the toys that really appeal to me(and then I plan any acquisitions carefully in line with a specific budget set aside for buying things like Transformers). Hence I have only a small handful of Movie toys and only some of the Classics line. Might consider getting some of the animated line when they come out - as well as some of the sculpts appealing to me they have the advantage of being relatively small and at reasonable price points.

I have a weird compulsion to purchase Transformers which none of my peers like. Characters like Sky-Byte and Repugnus just leap out at me. I'm thinking about getting that Magmatron monstrosity next.

Oh no I don't have as many as that! Blimey! No my "completed for me" Alts collection consists of Police Prowl, Jazz, Wheeljack, Skids, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, BATTLE Ravage and Swindle. I'd like the Mirage, eventually, and I'd buy Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee and Brawn, but obv the smegheads didn't do 'em. I also have Shockwave, but I don't use him no more, 'cos he's too small next to MP Optimus. Just doens't seem fit. He proudly on display though.

I really don't buy many Transformers, partly because of space and partly because I'm actually not that interested in the toys. Generally I'll buy something because it looks good on my shelf like Binaltech Smokescreen, a toy that wowed me more than any before or since. In other cases it's something else. Like my re-issue Megatron - a toy that as a kid I always wanted.
I actually purchased a Legends movie Jazz yesterday whilst getting food from Tesco. I just saw loads of him on a display, whilst other characters had only a few left (or were gone). Then I recalled how 'meh' his fellow Autobots were about his death in the movie and I felt sorry for the poor unloved fella. He even looked depressed, but after taking him home, freeing him from his bubble and transforming him a few times he seemed to cheer up.

I collect anything I like. Really thats it. I was going for a complete set of Primes but after Armada Prime I got put off, I picked up Energon cheap but never got around to Cyb Prime and I still need Voyager movie Prime oh and gobot prime. I had a similar set of Megatrons but that ended when I saw Armada Megatron. So now I just pick up what looks good to me. Currently thats a quite a lot unfortunately.

I've decided to actually catalog all the Transformers toys I have, and it's a heavy task. Does anyone know of an online checklist that accounts for parts needed too, or am I gonna have to Excel the whole project?

I have mine on a txt file, which started off as a list for a fellow TMUK member in 1996, oddly enough. Although more recently I've since made and regularly modify an Excel spreadsheet (yes, we have Excel on Macs) with my collection on, although admittedly I find it a tricky piece of software to use!
Wish there was some automatic piece of software to catalogue TF collections, or some website where a list could be compiled from entries about existing toys - like unicron.com, with user logins perhaps.

I catalogue my toys by the level of dust on them.

I lost track about two years ago. Any attempt at counting is usually stymied by losing track of who I've done.

I must admit I don't have any kind of catalogue of my collection. I did start to make a list when I was triaging in over the last eighteen months but I abandoned that idea midway through. I don't think I've still got even that partial list - and it would be hopelessly inaccurate now anyway, because a huge chunk of the stuff I did have on it I no longer own.

I have sometimes experienced the horror of forgetting which toys I have. It recently occured to me that I can't remember all the decoys I have. I also can't remember which box most of them are in so I can check for doublers.

My brother phoned last night. My nephew wanted to know if I had any photos of my collection I could send him to show his geography teacher, who is apparently a big fan of Transformers and had been boasting about his collection. I think it may be a case of nyah, my uncle's got a better collection. (Is anybody here a geography teacher in Worcester, by any chance?) As I've scanned some photos, I thought I'd show them here. I've set up a small gallery here. There are several photos dating from 2000 and 2001, which was the last time I had enough space to set up the full collection for photographing; there are also a couple showing my current case display; plus a couple of odds and ends that I threw in, including a Sea Serpent mode that I made up for Classics Grimlock.

Dear sweat Lord that's immense! Have you got, like, every TF ever X2?! Very nice collection matey.
I really don't think LOC Barricade would defeat Spychanger Prowl though. No way.

I'm surprised I missed this thread before. A fine selection there, Nigel! How long did it take to arrange them all on your bed like that? Come to that, how did you get half of them to stay up?

Ooh crikey, I don't know - as mentioned above, these pictures date from 2001 so I'm not sure how many there would have been back then. My database is a bit out of date at the moment (I must catch up with that sometime soon) but I know the collection currently stands somewhere in the region of 1800. Take out of that number most of the releases from RID onwards and you might have some idea of what's in the pictures! Or you could always try and count them. Let me know what number you come up with.
