Poor Skids....  Forever trapped in limbo...  And I'm not really that fussed as to which lines the toys pop up in. I'm just mostly bemused/intrigued. But it could be to do with the number of available slots, that's true. |

Classic Beast-Era characters and Cyclonus! Who should really be in the Studio Series ‘86 line but isn’t because... reasons. I still think they got this reversed. BW would have made more sense for Studio Series. It wouldn't be competing with G1 toys, would be a good filler to stretch out the movie toys further, it would have blocked the G1 invasion of Studio Series, and it would be able to continue longer than a year. And since hasbro stated they have no interest in toy only characters in Kingdom, it fits into the central themes for Studio (scale, show accuracy, show only characters). There are 14 season 1 characters. 8 season 2 characters (counting new bodies for existing characters) 7 season 3 characters. 29 unique toys. The meandering pace of Studio would allow them to keep coming back to this. In contrast, "War for Cybertron" going from pre-earth, to earth, then taking a left turn into distant future/distant past Beast Wars seems as wildly out of place as Power of the Primes going back to Combiner Wars instead of being about... I dunno... the power of the Primes.And gotta get 'em all done in a year so we can move onto the next line! New line new gimmicks stuff to do, gotta redo Starscream and Optimus and Prowl their last toys are a year old after all! |

Yeah, no, don't look at those Cyberverse Optimus Prime and Starscreams, they don't count because shut up that's why. And that's an interesting idea - I'd not have considered Beast Wars for Studio Series because I'd mostly thought of that line as being about the films. But why not animation accurate too? That could've given us some interesting Beast Machine toys also. Ah well... |
