GI Joe on Anime Network
I just happened to notice this tonight. 9pm and at midnight on channel 199 on Sky.
I caught most of the ep after badminton, involving brainwashed animals due to a high frequency sonic emitter.
Such utter bollocks and such fun.
Watch best friends Mutt and Junkyard fight each other and alligators!
Witness ninja master Snake Eyes be saved from death by piranhas by the common sense of spirit!
Thrill to seeing an eagle sitting atop a Timber wolf (it looked so awesome)!
There was even some blood when Scarlett smacked around some Cobra troopers. She even pimp-handed one of them.

I saw this also on Sky listings page last night but didn't bother watching it. Might catch it tonight though.

My favourite episode is when Cobra blasts the nightclub into space, and the Joes use shook-up cans of cola for propulsion.

A friend lent me one of the DVD sets, so I've been watching episodes recently and they're great. I have no idea why they make Storm Shadow sound like an old man.
Aside from the silliness though there's some really good stuff. Check out the 2 parter "There's No Place Like Springfield" if it ever shows up.
And if you have the misfortune of watching the movie, stop after the opening sequence with the statue of liberty.

I've seen the movie twice. Once, years ago when I found a copy on video (the Action Force version) for £3 in a clearance basket in Woolworths. It was utter shite then, so why I bought it AGAIN (the GI Joe version this time) just before Christmas on DVD from another clearance bin, I don't know. It was simply a moment of madness. The DVD seems to be a badly edited together version of the Action Force and GI Joe versions. The go from shouting "Full Force!" to yelling "Yo Joe!" with no consistency. The only redeeming factor is the completely unintentionally hilarious scene where Duke slips in to a coma after being clearly stabbed through the heart with Serpentor's speer.
I think I'll stick to the comics.

The DVD seems to be a badly edited together version of the Action Force and GI Joe versions. I've got that version on VHS, it's a bit confusing, but doesn't make the film any better. At least the US movie DVD had the PSAs on it.

Aren't there versions where the opening statue of liberty scene is like 3 seconds, and other versions where it's a lot longer?

I'm sure someone on one of the previous hub's said the same thing. I have a budget version of it but it has the full length statue of liberty bit.

Aren't there versions where the opening statue of liberty scene is like 3 seconds, and other versions where it's a lot longer? The Action Force version is the opening sequence cut down to 30 seconds with the Action Force themetune playing over the top. The proper version is about 3 minutes long with the great Cobra song.

Pretty sure mine is the shorter version, only copy I have is the Action Force video. Yeah, all the Action Force movie VHS have the shorter version. By proper I meant the GI Joe version. The badly edited together version is still called GI Joe and has the full length opener. I also noticed that it says "feature legnth" on the VHS cover.

It's a terrible movie yet I can't help but love the first three minutes.
If only the whole movie had been like that!

I seem what folk mean about Chris Latta doing basically the same performance as Cobra Commander as he did as Starscream....

Hopefully they upload the main series as well. People need to know there was more to this show than just endlessly repeating the same exact plot over and over (as is the case with these miniseries).

Not seen much of the series before (though have seen the Movie many times). Watched the first ep on this youtube channel. It's chumps versus chumps!

Much as I rag on Friedman being a one-trick pony, the fact is that first miniseries in 1983 was something no-one in the US had seen before. If it had not been a success, TF would not have happened nor anything else that followed.
Also, you may notice they were getting away with a lot on that first mini. I count at least 7 deaths, real machine gun fire. Plus, hand-to-hand combat was absolutely taboo on networks, but here they dived right in (though they didn't record Body English for it, I guess to downplay it).
It would be interesting if they do more, to playlist it in production order. Which, in case you're wondering, looks like this:
G.I Joe: A Real American Hero (AKA The MASS Device)
4005 The Cobra Strikes 4006 Slaves Of The Cobra Master 4007 The Worms Of Death 4008 Duel In The Devil's Cauldron 4009 A Snake In The Serpent's Heart
G.I Joe: The Revenge Of Cobra (AKA G.I Joe II)
4018 In The Cobra's Pit 4019 The Vines Of Evil 4020 The Palace Of Doom 4021 Battle On The Roof Of The World 4022 Amusement Park Of Terror

I watched the first episode.
Now I can see why a lot of american's hold the Sunbow TF cartoon in high regard. It is light years beyond this in terms of pace and energy and that theme tune is the drizzling shits.

Good grief, that GI Joe theme really is turgid! I have such fond memories of the Action Force version of it.

Similar, but with There's No Place Like Springfield. Brilliant 2 parter written by Steve Gerber. Eventually saw a few other eps, and that alt world [Worlds Without End] is defo a stand out. The Viper Is Coming is worth a watch too.
