So if Maverick is like Ectotron, a heavy remould, what do we think its a remould of?
Only two option I can think of are ER Starscream or Classics Jetfire.

I was looking at that, the only thing I could see is that the cockpit looks very similar to the one on Thrust but then the nose is much longer. Maverick also has the typical strike plane shoulder points next to the cockpit in jet mode, but then doesn't seem to have them in the robot picture. I reckon it's the Earthrise jet mould with mucho remoulding.
The dogtags on the box look like they have a date on them. It looks like 06.25.2020 to me. The film was due on 24th/26th June before it got moved to December, so maybe we were due a reveal for this toy around now to tie in with it.

Maverick: I'm recalling a mad TF/Top Gun crossover rumour but can't find it. The pic of the robot has a head that reminds me of a Powermaster jet: possible pretool? Maverick looks interesting, although I’ll have to see his robot mode first. If it’s like Ectotron, and designed along the same lines as the older Crossovers toys, it’ll be basic and uninteresting and I’ll pass. And to be honest I’ll only pick it up if Reprolabels promise to do a Topper Harley set for it... So if Maverick is like Ectotron, a heavy remould, what do we think its a remould of? He looks considerably larger than the (assumed) voyager soundwave he's with, and the panel lines on the back of the jet are insanely familiar to me. |

The jet mode does resemble the CW Leader Jetfire, but it can't be that one because the robot mode had a fake cockpit chest and this Maverick clearly uses the actual jet cockpit. There's also no hiding those wings.  Classics seems closer, but would they really go all the way back there for a mould to heavily remodel? That's a very old toy made in a time of different parts counts and plastic uses.  If you think about how Ecto-1 had a completely remodeled alt mode, I don't think it's impossible Maverick started as ER Starscream. |

The engineering is completely different. You can tell by the panel lines on the back. Also, I still think it's bigger than a voyager jet. Oldschool like classics jetfire, or new. On a side note, I'm kinda surprised they went top gun, and not something that'd make a more desirable and cooler transformer, like the BttF time machine. I mean this is just... a jet. |
