I will accept reissues of the "large" tr headmasters, if it means we'll get the "small" headmasters.
Horri-Bull works as a retool of Skullsmasher Fangry works as a retool of Grotusque And Squeezeplay works as a retool of Repugnus. (Even a straight repaint is acceptable)
And with a pretool, Nightbeat and Siren could work from one another.
So two. Two new molds is all we need to finish off the actual real headmasters.
And most of the "large" headmasters have alternate (and accurate) faces that weren't released outside of japan.

Those listings don't have Generations in them. Usually we get Tra Gen at the start. I wonder if they're something else. I don't think I could cope with another new line. It's all too much!

They were found in walmart systems. Plausible they could be g1 reissues.

Maybe the Japanese Headmaster warrior heads. They did say on a stream to expect some Japanese G1 before the end of the year.

Maybe the Japanese Headmaster warrior heads. They did say on a stream to expect some Japanese G1 before the end of the year. No, I don't think it's those. There are six of them, so two per package is only three sets, but there are four listings. They also need bodies to even be worth having for most collectors. Probably all four "large" autobots, or with decepticons making up whatever original mold is toast. Or two/two ratio (chromedome/brainstorm, skullcruncher/weirdwolf is myguess for that).

Walmart have only reissued stuff that has already been done in recent years though, to bring out four moulds not seen since the 80s from nowhere would be quite a leap.

I've heard rumours these are Titan returns figures in G1 style packaging.

So basically, whatever it is, it's not going to be a complete set of whatever it is we're missing, and thus will simply leave us feeling slightly miffed? Sounds about right.

A shame it's not Highbrow rather than Punch if these are in G1 type packaging. Would make a nice set if it were the four original Headmasters.

Don't realize what a hot mess TR Hardhead is until I saw this one. Will probably get it.
Chromedome is an improvement, though aside from the proper head, not sure why. Want the proper head, but not sure if i want it enough to buy it again. Brainstorm looks worse, and I didn't bother comparing Mindwipe.

I like the boxes. If they do this with '84 characters in their new moulds in a few years I might well bite for the novelty, but these headmaster heads don't look as good as the toy version originals.

I'm left feeling a little like when the GI Joe retro collection turned out to be 25th anniversary moulds again. I'd have been all over these if they were G1 reissues, but like this... I might get Mindwipe as I didn't get him first time around, but that would be it.
When there are straight up reissues like the Real Ghostbusters toys, or the 80s styled but with articulation MOTU Origins line, just using retro packaging for a modern toy doesn't quite cut it with me.

It's entirely plausible all or most of the originals are lost or toast. And we know hasbro doesn't like to spend money to repair or recreate the originals. That's always been a takara thing.

Yeah, I know... I can’t imagine it ever being worth recreating moulds like the headmasters, but I remain surprised that it isn’t economical to recreate the Dinobots, or at least Grimlock. I’m sure that would sell!

Hasbro won't, and I'm under the impression that the dinobots were never a major thing for the japanese fans they way they are for us. Which is why we haven't seen more Dinobot Masterpieces, or more of mp Grimlock outside of the marvel repaint. Since recreating molds is a takara thing, i think the headmasters actually stand a better chance than the dinobots.
What actually surprises me though is that when the reissues were a big deal, that takara never recreated sunstreaker or mirage.

I'm not sure the Japanese Dinobot story stands up: they got the Chinese reissues as mail aways, they got new BW Dinosaurs in Neo, they got MP Grimlock early in the MP range, they got a second go at Volcanicus....
It seems to be a theory put about over the years with little basis that's accepted as fact.
The moulds being toast I can, sadly, believe. But they were produced in multiple locations over the years - there's definitely a Chinese set - so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a currently missing set may show up

Counterpunch is the only rumoured Headmasters toy not to be revealed last night.
But I suspect there's a wave 2 on the runway - Highbrow, Wierdwolf & Skullcruncher - with Counterpunch in there to bring it up to a set of 4/2 per case of 8.
