You know who would have been a good base toy for the Blackbird? Dogfight. They're already the same basic colour.

Are we sure it'll be the Blackbird? Aside from it being in the picture. It could be... er... a Sentinel instead? For one of the laziest transformations ever.
What's their reason for this one, anyway? Is there a specific X-Men event happening soon? Or is it just an idea they're running with?

I never felt the jet was an integral part of X-Men. Not iconic like, say the Batmobile or A-Team van. I might be wrong, but wont it just be a blackbird jet Transformer? As much as I like X-Men, this doesn't excite me yet as much as the Ghostbusters & BTTF ones. And I'm much much more a fan of X-Men than those other two franchises. Although, with the colours, it could turn into a big robot Psylocke...

Well. TF/DC honestly makes far more sense. I do feel that the Blackbird is probably the single most iconic Marvel vehicle. It stays fairly consistent in design across all versions, unlike the Quinjet which looks dramatically different from iteration to iteration.
That said, this isn't a particularly high bar. Marvel in general is not known for vehicles. The X-Men Blackbird The Avengers Quinjet The SHIELD Helicarrier The F4 Fantasticar The Guardians Milano And the Runaways Leapfrog are the only Marvel vehicles I can think of. And I don't even know if the Milano appears outside of the movies.
DC however is ripe with vehicles. Most of them more iconic than any of Marvel's. You could make up a Batmobile design from scratch, and the name alone makes it more recognizable than any Marvel vehicle.
However a DC/TF crossover toy will never happen as long as a major competitor has the DC license. (We haven't heard of it, but I bet you anything Hasbro lobbied hard for the DC License, and I wish they'd gotten it. Anything is better than MacFarlane)
Mattel has Jurassic Park/World after Hasbro squandered it. We won't see that.
Nickelodeon doesn't seem to have a problem issuing specific use licenses of TMNT, and Playmates currently isn't using it. This seems to have a decent chance. Plus IDW has both licenses, and it would be the easiest comic for them to do.
Star Trek is virtually impossible without a brand new mold. But the concept has already been moderately successful. It is more likely than most. Hasbro also has a successful partnership with Paramount.
Hasbro has Star Wars already, and SW/TF is already proven successful. This is very likely.
Battlestar Galactica isn't as well known as anything we've seen, but it does have the viper fighter ready to go, and is popular enough with the core group TF Collaboration is marketed to.
ALIENS is not held by a major competitor. With a reintroduction to Beast Wars, animals are not off the table, and a retool of a fossilizer makes a good xeno base. ALIEN also has a few recognizable vehicles.
Terminator and Predator are similar to ALIENS, highly recognizable and iconic brands. But I can't think of anything in either franchise that's TF Toy ready.
A retool of Kingdom Optimus Primal could give us Harry, from Harry and the Hendersons.

From UXM ..... I want to say c170 The X-Men are using an SR-71 Blackbird. From UXM 281/X-Men 1 they use a modified Jim Lee design. That's the one on the teaser image, was in the animated series and is (essentially) the one in the films. unlike the Quinjet which looks dramatically different from iteration to iteration. To my mind there is ONE Quinjet design: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/cmx-images-prod/Item/141691/Previews/3d89534ebe11d3770609d65aef3181e5._SX360_QL80_TTD_.jpgAnything else is a pale imitation, frequently lacking the requisite 5 engines!

The FF have an array of vehicles, the Punisher has a van and the Hobgoblin a battlewagon. Even as we speak one member of this forum is stamping his feet and demanding a Crossovers Champions Flitter!

Its more blue than I expected.
And if Im being honest I dont like the packaging being primarily X-Men branded. Its nice and very 90s, but I liked that the first two were based on Transformers packaging.

Is it really considered to be blue in the comic?
Memorable Marvel vehicles. Hmmm.
Ghost Rider's motorcycle?

Is it really considered to be blue in the comic? No, I'd say they went blue to get the X-Men blue and gold [yellow] in robot mode. And it acts as a homage to old colouring where blue was used to highlight black.

From UXM ..... I want to say c170 The X-Men are using an SR-71 Blackbird. I can't entirely remember what the original Blackbird looked like back in the day. But, if it looked anything like that post Operation:Zero Tolerance image in that wiki link then its closest real-life sibling is the SR-71 - given it's resemblance to 2/3rds of an SR-71 with the nose and forward fuselage amputated and an enormous, ugly blister raised on the mid-fuselage. (In universe it was explained to be a descendant of the SR-71 that both the USAF and presumably CIA passed on, and was built for S.H.I.E.L.D instead. Lets face it, S.H.I.E.L.D will buy pretty much any nonsense as long as they think it looks cool. Or is a Mandroid armour). The second Blackbird is really one of only two X-Men jets which has any proper relationship to a real-design. Being a weird bigger-on-the-inside supposed SR-71. (The other one is the Ultimate X-men jet. Which is basically a B-2 Spirit with weird neon glowing lines painted on it. *facepalm* "Dear Professor Chuck, you painted fluorescent paint on an aircraft painted black because it was specifically intended to fly at night when it is dark. I think we need to discuss how the concept "stealthy" works..."). After that they pretty much diverge from anything that exists on the real-world and go on their merry way. Well, yes - any aircraft with less or more than five jet engines is by definition not a Quinjet. It is right there in the prefix Quin- "having five of[something]". Karl

I'm undecided on this.
On the plus side:- 1) The humanoid mode is mostly based on a Cyclops costume, and Cyke was always one of my favourite X-Men 2) It looks sort of like an SR-71, which is an accidentally beautiful-looking aircraft. 3) As well as Cyclops' visor the humanoid mode appears to have laser-claws to imitate Wolverine and a laser swordknifedaggerpointystick modelled after the Focused Totality Of Betsy Braddock's Psychic Might. This is genuinely hilarious.
On the minus side:- 1) The humanoid mode is based on the 90s version of the Cyclops costume, with the X-Factor X merged with a utility belt of entirely decorative pouches... This is not a great look. 2) The aircraft mode lacks most of the nicest features of the SR-71. No pointy nose, instead it looks like it ran into the hanger doors and dunted its nose hard. The brute-force solution of the spike-inlets at the front of each engine bay is entirely missing. Instead it has what appear to be conventional airliner-esque intakes fitted upside down, so that they'll direct a lot of the airflow up and over the engine instead of into it. This latter looks very silly indeed to my eye and causes a sad shake of the head. 3) The extra cost of a license from Disney for this one is going to make it a bit on the expensive side for what it is, I suspect. 4) They've redecorated, I don't like it. Sorry, blue SR-71's (however mauled), just look weird to me. Blackbird, Oxcart, call it what you want to SR-71's are like Model T Fords - you can have any colour you want, as long as it is black. Even NASA's SR-71 stayed resolutely black...
A part of me still wants it because it is funny. But it is going to be rather expensive to buy just for giggles...
