Never again will I indulge in a Hachette partwork. Not unless it's a Target audio CD one, and I can't see that ever happening.

That is a good deal unless it turns into every gift being a paintbrush

I have decided to sub. I have seen I can get some Dark Angels upgrade kits from GW to avoid having to go Dulltramarines.

Since this is not yet listed on the Hachette site I think it is still a test run, with the proper release likely in August. You may still receive the issues and likely not be charged. Bonus!
I'm actually now flogging my Pile Of Shame on eBay from Conquest, so either way I won't be getting this one.

The free gifts feel lacking this time around. No mention of a mug on the subs site? I heard you pre-subbers we’re getting them tho via the FB group. Staying away as I’m not really doing this at the mo. Yes

The mug was a thank you to the pre-subbers apparently.
I like a mug and a free mug is even better.

The ad is now on TV, saw it in the commercial break on whatever ITV channel had Jaws 3D on tonight.

Nice. I do love a good sticker album. There is nothing like the thrill of opening a packet of stickers.

the new 40k set is up to preorder.
I could have waited on the GW website for over an hour to try and order and pay £150.00, or thanks to a tip from Jamesotron, off to wayland games ordered in a few mins and for £120.00.
Result.

Nice! That's a decent price for it. I didn't go after it myself, I'm thinking that I might go after Heresy stuff for the core of my force, and build out from there - I'm kind of wanting to go with a heavy Corvus armour theme. But if I was going to do a "Modern Armour" force, the new starter set has some really nice stuff in there.

My Heresy boxed set is already here, arrived on Wednesday, so I now have plentiful marines, coupled with what I have from when i subbed to the partwork.

I still don't understand how Warhammer works. Do you move little men around a board?

My Heresy boxed set is already here, arrived on Wednesday, so I now have plentiful marines, coupled with what I have from when i subbed to the partwork. Nice, that is a very good solid core of a force - certainly a very solid foundation to build on. I'm in the process of working out what I can part out from a Devastator squad box to earmark as heavy weapons for Tactical squads. The Tac squad box gives me three special weapons, and I figure that I can pair them up with heavy weapons from the Devastator box and the Heresy starter and probably pull together three fully armed Tacs, with ten bolter blokes left over as a "supernumary" force, or to fill out Heresy era 20-man squads. So far I have got two Las-Cannon and two Heavy Plasma for certain, which is a decent start. Karl

Do you move little men around a board? -Ralph No you make a game board at an agreed size and put down all sorts of terrain depending on what battle you are doing. The models have different attributes (movement, shooting, hand to hand, toughness and the like) and dice are involved. It's turn based - usually 4 or 5 and each person gets a turn to move, shoot, fight, do psychic powers and other special actions.

I've always been put off by the likes of Warhammer, D&D etc as it seems like such a huge investment of money buying loads of bits just to play it.
I could be completely wrong: it's just how it comes across to an Outsider.

No, it's a fair point.
It is a bit of an investment, but buying a boxed game, and flipping the army you don't want is a nice way to recoup costs. Plus you can always pick up models on the cheap via ebay and the likes.

I've tried to get into Warhammer several times over the years. I was generally happier with Fantasy Battle as I used to play D&D, but I did amass a High Elf army at one point. I tried to go the Shadespire route a few years back for a quick 'all in one' box approach to skirmish fighting, but even with that I found myself having trouble remembering all the rules. It was too complicated, and I know Shadespire was supposed to be the easy/quick cut down version. I think it's all beyond me.
To be honest, I think I had more fun building the army than playing the game.
