Yeah, Starscream was victim to the "rival's colors" philosophy that made absolutely no sense.
· Starscream in Jetfire's colors (but since Jetfire was a repurpose, he's black)
· Grimlock in Trypticon colors because that makes sense, somehow? (Resulting in a toy that looks very close to the standard retail Classics Grimlock)
· Cyclonus in Rodimus colors because who knew Cyclonus was Rodimus' rival instead of Galvatron?
· Devastator in Ratchet's colors because...?
FP's ideas of who is who's traditional rival falls apart if you thibk about it for longer than five-eighths of a second.

That said, even though this is one of the all time worst modern molds, and the worst Starscream since FoC Starscream, it does take these colors amazingly well.

No, that's just a randomly black and purple grimlock. SG Grimlock is primarily gray, with green and purple instead of gold and red. He really doesn't look much different from the original.  |

There's a lot of questionable/half-assed decisions by Fun Pub, I mean some of the decos look good, but there's no real understandable rationale behind the decisions.

I think Shattered Glass would have been extremely interesting to me, if they had understood and embraced the "There, but for the grace of God, goes I" mentality of Mirror, Mirror, instead of just gone with the pop culture misconception "all good guys are evil, all bad guys are good!"
Authoritarian Optimus Prime vs Freedom Fighter Megatron would be so much more interesting than Insane Supervillain Optimus vs Robot Jesus Megatron
Universe Onslaught with a new head in muted Optimus colors would have made a much more interesting toy to me, than classics Op in purple with "til all are won!" printed on it.
(Please note, the optimus we got was one of the few decoes I really liked)
Like Galvatron, new alt modes/toys that fit their new roles/personalities, but in their recognizable colors would just be much more fun.

I don't actually know much about Shattered Glass but I assume it's all about opposites so is that why this figure isn't gold and isn't a bug?

This is not a commentary on the deco, as the deco looks fine (and always has. I've always been fond of the gold/black reversal deco), but on the concept of the toy itself... But this is the worst mold choice they've made yet. It does not work for the character, or as an homage or update of the original toy. Like...the others I get. Siege Starscream may be one of the most terrible molds of the last ten years, but even I would have gone with that one for SG Starscream. SS86 Blurr as SG Blurr is a terrible match, but there's not a lot of options. Similar with Megatron. And ER Optimus doesn't present the same energy that Classics Optimus did, but ultimately it's the same. But this? There is no commonality between the Cliffjumper mold and the Cybertron Hotshot mold. This is just choosing Bumblebee Body for G1 Namesake alone. If FP had wanted to do that, they had access to Classics Bumblebee. Instead they chose to do something more original.  But unlike the others I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of cars to choose from. And a fair few a lot closer to Cyb Hotshot, including SS86 Hotrod (it's false chest actually works in it's favor). They took one of the most fun concepts of the original set, and made the most boring mold choice possible. Also, I really hope that the $30 deluxes are funding something down the line, because ER Cliffjumper wasn't worth the price of a deluxe, let alone $30. |

Okay, that's incorrect. It's *a* Goldbug, just not the one I was hoping for. But then given that this was a Shattered Glass line I'm not surprised. And given how much I complain about slavish adherence to G1 I really shouldn't complain - even if G1 Goldbug is one of my favourite characters.
Ah well, it's good for those that want thes SG versions of these characters, but for me I'll just have to go back to waiting...
