Will put in a leave request when I back in the workplace next month. Leave is restricted at certain times in the year but I don't know when yet.
If I can get the time off Mrs B and I will be there, with me at the Toy-Fu stall helping out.

Hilton website already shows no rooms available for these dates.
I thought to book ahead to avoid the stress of being online for the right 5 mins to get the con rooms by just stumping up for full rate early for peace of mind but, er, no.

The rooms are not available until February. The hotel has had no event staff in for the last year or so. We'll be updating people in December when we know more.

Hilton doesn't have any rooms available into the new year at all - or at least it didn't last week when I was checking to see what sort of rooms they had available there (looking for options for us). Guess they're so short on staff and/or confidence that they're not putting anything up for booking that far in advance...

Right. I see it. Seemed really odd not to see any rooms available at all, ie for general punters but, er, um.
I just don't like the idea at all of the stress of being online at just the right time to get rooms.

Sadly will always be a factor as we will never get the full capacity of the Hilton rooms and we always have more attendees than rooms.
That being said there is the newer Hilton (supposed to be slightly cheaper) that will be opening nearby. We'll keep people update as and when.

Sadly will always be a factor as we will never get the full capacity of the Hilton rooms and we always have more attendees than rooms. You mean they treat us and the salsa dancers equally? How very dare them! Do they not know who we are?! *whispers off-stage* Oh, right, they know exactly who we are. Okay, that's fair. That being said there is the newer Hilton (supposed to be slightly cheaper) that will be opening nearby. We'll keep people update as and when. Huh - I'd not been paying attention and realised that there was another one. Although we'll have to stay on site due to Scraplet needing to nap, and us not wanting to run back and forth between hotels. And yeah, the Hilton website is itself shockingly bad. I was trying to get information on the types of rooms that they had, since we were thinking of looking at a suite of some sort because that might be easier with the Scraplet. But actually getting pictures of those? Good luck. Although apparently every room type comes with its own swimming pool. Which seems excessive, but value for money I guess...

I've just booked my ticket. Just for the Sunday, though I might add to that depending on what else is announced. I've also reserved a room at the Premier Inn for Sunday night.

I'm currently sitting in the Monarch Suite with a pint of Becks. Where is everyone? Oh, wait, wrong convention! I'm at Crossroads IV (Supernatural). I'm usually at NEC or Hilton several times a year for trade fairs or conventions and this is the first time since September 2019 - it's good to be back! TFNation'll be a good one this year!

So how is everyone travelling to TFN this year?
After many years of not having to do it, I may be getting the bus from Glasgow to Birmingham and back this year. Over the past few tips to TFN I was able to get train tickets from Kilmarnock to Birmingham and back for £24-£26 each way, though the return train was from New Street not long after 7am.
Only when the train tickets became available last week did I learn that Virgin Trains no longer exist, most likely news I missed due to the first lockdown and covid chaos back in March 2020, so now instead of £52 for a round trip, it is now costing £104. Ouch.
It is actually cheaper to fly down from Glasgow International than to get the train. That's just madness.
Even the Megabus that used to travel through the night from Glasgow to Birmingham is now only during the day. At least Nation Express do still run a bus through the night that is £34 return.
It still feels surreal and not really sinking in that TFN is happening this year.
I hope to see most of you there.

It'll be train for me, it's not that far from where I live. Not looked at prices yet as I need to work out with Ed how and if we're travelling at the same time. Last time we didn't, if I remember right.

Ooh, do I get to meet Mrs Ralph? Re. travel, it'll be driving for me. As I'm going just Sunday (then staying overnight afterwards), I expect I'd be hard pressed to get a suitable set of trains in the morning. Plus I'll have more luggage room. In the past, there's been little cost difference between train and car for me. I don't know what it's like now. I should look into the train option properly.

I dunno. A4 prints = £5 A3 prints = £10 If you want a commission or a sketch in an artbook, I'd recommend letting me know in advance so I can do it for collection at the show. Must admit. I am rather concerned that covid rates are going the wrong way. How packed will this be? Any limits on numbers in rooms?

I finally booked my return train yesterday to leave International at 5:48am on Monday morning, so I should be home by 12pm depending on train cancellations, strikes and what ever unforeseen things are thrown at me.
After booking my train I checked my hotel information to find that I accidentally booked my room for only 1 adult instead of 2, and was unable to amend that on the website without booking a new room at non-TFN rates. After a phone call this evening that wasn't the smoothest due to me being awkward and the poor guy on the phone not so sure what I was trying to request, I finally got it changed to two adults, paying a little extra to ensure the inclusive breakfast and the single king sized bed being split into two single beds, which I did request when I booked the room.
Phew. Now to find a body who has left it late to find a room for Friday and Saturday night. And budgeting, packing and trying to cram all my ToyFu stash into my broken suitcase.
