Got Kickback, Skids, and Dragstrip today.
The $22 Kickback brings absolutely nothing new to the table over the $10 Legend. He is neither better or worse, just bigger.
And I bigger, I don't mean just a little. He's a full sized deluxe.
I'd thought he'd be small like ER Cliffjumper (a bit bigger), to cover his wings, with the massive swords thrown in to cover the rest like CJ's bazooka.
But nope. They saved money on his transformation!
His transformation is slightly more complex than the original toy. Regular sized deluxe, minimalist transformation.
If you have the Legend and been on the fence about this one, you won't be missing out if you skip it.
Skids is great. Very straightforward, no surprises. What you get is exactly what it looks like. Solid robot, straight forward transformation that's neither more complex than it needs to be, nor too simplistic. Solid vehicle.
Weapons and the ways they attach to him are very versatile and elegant. Much better planned than the in Siege.
Also given that he's based on the toy instead of being redesigned, he offers things that T30 skids doesn't.
Dragstrip is absolutely fantastic. Great, solid robot mode, very clever and fun transformation, and a great different vehicle mode.
Only nitpick is I wish his legs had been designed to be reversible. The backside with the engine is much more interesting to look at.
He's my favorite of the three.

Cog: I'm seeing LOTS of bits I don't recognise but there's an Siege/Kingdon Ultra Magnus gun, with extra bit stuck in the barrel, and a CW Prowl gun in there.
Any offers for the other bits? I can see FOUR different gun barrels in there plus a rectangular box gun/launcher with rounded top & bottom (side of vehicle) and the two bits on his chest which combine to form the cylinder bomb

Fuck me. "Red Cog"?! That is so incredibly lazy. I mean, yes, the Grand Maximus Cog is also known simply as Cog, according to the wiki, but they also don't need to be so slavishly beholden to the wiki in all matters. At the very least they could have called him "Koka" and/or "Onomisu" as they're also listed on the wiki as the names of his two components ( tfwiki.net/wiki/Cog_(Masterforce)#Toys ). Or even Gasket or Grommet - those names are still there for the taking! So very lazy. Still, I do like that specific accessory that they've just done for Arcee. That's kinda fun. I look forward to that being the justification for selling this Deluxe at the Voyager price point. |

I think it's also meant to be a generic red Cog as seen in the cartoon as well as the specific Grand Maximus Cog

The problem with calling him Red Cog is he's not very red.
Put me on team "he needs a real name"
I'm pretty certain that red diaclone Mirage hasn't turned up yet because it's never existed as a TF before.
They would have to name it, and when there's no precedence, they just don't bother with names.
Case in point, Red Cog, and Donky Kong 2 Ironhide.

I'd probably go with Rije or something for a name for Red Mirage if they want to use a pre-existing one. There's gotta be loads of F1 terms that haven't been used as names yet though...

If I'm correct and he is this year's red card exclusive, then I am very happy about that.
It drove me nuts not being able to get T-Wrecks, and the only reason I'm so passive about Roadrage is because that's easily the worst mold of Kingdom.
But there's no appeal for me in this guy outside of being a unique (and admittedly snazzy) deco.
I will feel no desire to go out of my way to procure him.
